The same two schools that played for the softball hardware match up for the baseball title. NB vs Meyersdale, with the winner seeing Portage in inter-districts.

Is it true that Northern beat Meyersdale? Any highlights from this game that somebody can post?

NBC won 4-2 behind a masterful pitching performance by John Love. After getting out of trouble in the first he was on cruise control for 5 innings. He even had a 3 pitch inning in the middle of the game.

For the NBC offense, Dan Oberman played extremely well. He hit his first ever homerun.... first ever as in Little League, Pony, JH, 7 grade, and so on. The Panthers hit the ball hard into spots where the Meyersdale players weren't. At times, Meyersdale would hit the ball hard, but it was right at somebody including 2 line drives at the 2nd baseman, Justin Claar. Love drew a lot of ground balls and several routine flyballs as NBC scored when they needed to. They didn't waste opportunities and got the runs home which was big. In the seventh, Love got the first batter to ground out. Then he walked a batter. The next batter smashed a ball out to right to cut the lead to 4-2. The two batters got on giving Meyersdale guys at first and third with 1 out. Their best hitter (so I was told) came to the plate and John got him to strike out swinging. He seemed to reach back for something extra to get the big K when he needed it. The final batter, their starting pitcher Stull, lined a shot up the middle, but Love was able to get his glove up and knock it down. He threw to first and ended the game.

Seriously...Meyersdale has an outstanding hitting team as they averaged about 10 runs per game this season. Love was just outstanding today....I think this was huge for him and will continue to carry over for him into his senior year in all sports. This was his coming out party of sorts.

Now, NB plays Portage at Bedford on Monday. Portage is coach Scott Burda's old high school. He'll face his old team and coach in the first round of interdistricts.

No matter what happens from here on out... I was impressed with the team today. They played basically a flawless game getting great pitching and fielding as well as coming up with some timely hits.

Congratulations to Coach Burda, John Love and the entire team. Meyersdale was certainly a solid team. Maybe we(F-M) softened them up a little bit for you guys. Way to keep the title in the SHL. Good luck at states.

Congrats to the NBC baseball team for knocking off the undefeated Red Raiders. Represent SHL and D5 well in states. Im sure u will.
