Actually the announcers didn't realize that it was not a horse collar until their former official / rules expert pointed it out

The horse collar penalty changed nothing. PSU still only got a field goal on that drive. Even without the penalty it was maybe a 30-35 yard attempt.

The announcers (Herbstreit) also acknowledged that the PI was to the inside of the field while the official was to the outside.

The horse-collar play didn't change anything? How do you know that? PSU would have had to kick the field goal from further away on an ugly night. Anything could have happened. AND the tackler definitely grabbed Barkley's jersey on his number 2 of his #26. Both announcers said you are allowed to grab the jersey and bring a player down, even if it is from the back. Bad call.

Here's something interesting to note....right now on this message board we have one topic in which we're blasting a head high school football coach for blaming officiating for his teams loss (i am not condoning his actions, only pointing this out). Then in another topic we have grown men arguing that two "blown" calls out of likely close to 180 snaps from scrimmage on the night cost Ohio State the win!
It's appropriate to point out one of Joe Paterno's greatest quotes regarding the game of football..."Most games are not won, they're lost by one of the teams..." Meaning one team commits too many errors to over come and still win. Ohio State lost that game because they didn't make as many big plays as necessary to win. Penn State did make big plays, so they won. Period. Ohio State was the #2 team in the whole country and Penn State was not even in the top 25---the number two team in the whole country cannot blame a loss to an unranked opponent on two calls. At this point in the season, Ohio State is not playing like the #2 team in the country and it showed on Saturday night. That's why they lost.

While we are talking about obvious penalties, how about these two that were missed. The obvious hands to the face occurred on the same play as the missed PI at the end.

1. Ohio State couldn't stop Penn State's defensive front 4 in the second half. There were several blatant holding calls missed. On the one, JT Barrett scrambled up the middle for about 20 yards on a 3rd and 7.

2. Ohio State was gifted by Penn State 2 points on a safety, 3 more off a muffed punt, and scored one of their TDs after Penn State had a substitution violation on a 3rd down stop. Let's not act like the stars aligned in some miracle fashion for Penn State. Both teams had missed opportunities and capitalized on some mistakes.

3. Does anyone recall the 2 plays after this missed PI call? Quick reminder, they were back-to-back sacks of 10+ yards. Just like the horse-collar call, it really didn't change the outcome of anything. Maybe the official cut PSUs DB a break because a pick on the line of scrimmage got the receiver separation in the first place.

4. What goes around comes around. Ohio State's last 2 national titles wouldn't have happened if not for horrible officiating in their favor.

I would say #2 was probably the winning play of the game. Instead of giving up 6 on the bad snap, the punter beat the defender to the ball, only giving up 2 points. The PSU defense went wild on OSU afterward.
