Re: Pirates looking to trade McCutchen
It sounds like talks are heating up with the Nationals, and they are trying to get a deal done by tomorrow.
Re: Pirates looking to trade McCutchen
That sounds like desperation to me. What's the rush?
Let the rebuilding begin.

The Nationals want to get it done so they can make decisions on who to tender. If the Nationals are the desperate ones, it could be something good for the Pirates.

Nothing good will come of this. Nationals are a team looking to win next year. Just like when they traded our closer to them pirates will get prospects in return. Those prospects will be lucky if they combine have the impact cutch had on the org

Why would the Nationals be the desperate ones?
The fire sale has begun.

Re: Pirates looking to trade McCutchen
The Nationals could sign Dexter Fowler within the hour if they wanted to.

They are the desperate ones because they want to get the deal done by tomorrow. The Pirates have nothing to gain by rushing the deal. I'm not saying the Pirates are making a good decision either way. I'm just stating what I read when I was reading a report from Jayson Stark. I think he knows a little more about how these things work than even knowitall does, believe it or not.knowitall wrote:Why would the Nationals be the desperate ones?

Re: Pirates looking to trade McCutchen
I like McCutchen a lot. I would hate to see him leave. But trading your third best outfielder shouldn't be the white flag. He's probably not going to regain his 2011-2015 form when he was one of the top 10 players in the game. But it does sting a lot since he's very popular in Pittsburgh and he is the face behind the Pirates' revival.
I'll wait and see what they get before I burn PNC Park down. They still have a nice core in place to contend without him. I'm just worried they won't get much for him since he was so bad last year, like really bad. They really have to sell 2016 as a fluke and that he'll be better this year.
I guess he's reluctant to move out of center field as well. So perhaps that's part of why they are trading him.

Use your own head, Chris. The Nationals have many options. The Pirates don't.
And he's not your third best outfielder. He is your second and is also no worse than the second best player on the whole team. As bad as Cutch may have been last year, he had a better year than Bryce Harper.
