XFL

Post by abpk2903 »

It's back and the promise is for a more family friendly, community friendly league.  Will you be watching and/or would you support a local team, if PA were to get one?

I think this time Vince seems to be doing things the right way.  He struck out once but I give him full credit for trying again.  He is keeping it relatively small with 8 teams, he is promising only to sign players without a criminal record, and he wants the players on an annual contract so they can help out around the communities during the offseason.   The biggest thing is this time the funding is not solely reliant on TV money.  The one thing I would change is I would sell franchise's rather than Vince owning all of the teams.  This is an easy way to generate revenue.  What would you like to see in the new XFL?

I would like to see him establish teams in college hotbeds and feed off of college football popularity by keeping graduates of surrounding regional colleges on one XFL team.  Examples:
Birmingham with players from Alab, Auburn, UAB
A Pa. team with Pitt, PSU and Temple players
A Michigan team with Mich, Mich. St., E.Mich, C.Mich
Columbus with MAC players from Ohio, Cinci and OHio St.
ETC.....
This could generate more interest than normal for a spring football league IMO

I think that is a good idea. I have actually said this league would have a lot of success if it is not competing with the NFL in larger cities. NYC and LA do not need a 3rd pro football team. Some ideas that I have had include:

Harrisonburg, VA with the home stadium being leased from JMU.
Annapolis, MD with the home stadium being leased from the Naval Academy.
Columbus, OH with the home stadium being Mapfre stadium (Columbus Crew soccer stadium)
San Diego, CA with the home stadium being SDCCU Stadium (SDSU Aztecs home field)
El Paso, TX with the home stadium being the Sun Bowl.

Major cities are tapped out on corporate sponsorship opportunities but the small to mid-major cities could draw out large sponsorship from those respective industries.

He would be crazy not to put 3 of the 8 in san diego, oakland and st louis.

My guess for all 8.

1. San diego
2. Oakland
3. St louis
4. Orlando
5. Austin
6. Portland
7. Columbus
8. Tuscaloosa

Looks like he is targeting the coveted grumpy old white male demographic.  All that's missing is a clever slogan like Make FOOTBALL Great Again.

Based on what?  You seem to apply this same idea to pretty much anything on this board.  This is at least the 10th time that I've read this reply from you.

I'll certainly watch a Johnny Manziel quarterbacked team versus a Colin Kapernick QB'd team.

I wont. I am a huge WWE guy but this is destined to fail again. Arena football is basically dead, the only real other successful pro football league is CFL. XFL would be smart to pair up with them quickly
