You know, people in big cities don't really know what life is like for people in other parts of the country. Hence they have opinions out of ignorance. Young people are like that today. There are millions of people who still get ALL their news and sports from TV and newspapers. It's a shock to me that todays youngsters don't realize this. Older people don't run to their computers every time they have a question or need to know something. They STILL rely on their local news for the info they need in daily life. So shouldn't these folks be given fair coverage of the many topics they are interested in? By the way, watched channel 6 sports at 6 pm tonight. First topic was about 2 students from Westmont and their continuation of sports at the collegiate level. Topic 2 was about the new football head coach at Portage. Topic 3 was about Penn State men's basketball, and how the team was "drained" when they lost to Rutgers Tuesday night AFTER their great win over Iowa at the Palestra Saturday afternoon. How many times do we have to hear about the Iowa win? Don't say anything bad about Penn State, right.

Consumers in larger cities don’t get the amount of local coverage that high school athletes around here get. It’s amusing that some don’t realize that. We had someone complain about swimming coverage lol.

The Philadelphia Inquirer has opted to stop posting high school basketball scores until further notice.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette doesn’t have a Saturday print edition.

The Harrisburg Patriot News prints what? 3 times a week.

In tomorrow’s Tribune-Democrat there will be a brief recap and a box score from two schools in Somerset county. Doesn’t seem so bad when the home school forgets to call in the box score every now and again. It’s better than what a lot of other high schools in Pennsylvania get.

Complain about small town newspapers all you want, but every time someone complains about local media coverage in this thread, they have been given alternate options to find the type of information they want to consume.

There are multiple avenues on the internet to find scores and highlights, someone mentioned they watched the Pittsburgh news to watch the highlight of their favorite college basketball team the other day, hey not a bad idea.

You can complain to literally nobody on a message board, you could write the station manager and demand more coverage of your favorite team , or you can adapt to the year 2020 and explore other options. We see how some chose to handle the perceived issue at hand.

The Tribune Review covers high school bowling.

Darn it. I was hoping to link to the article. There’s also an article on Shaler’s cheerleading squad.

That’s great for the Tribune Review. They sort of scaled back some and focused less on Pittsburgh to some degree and became more localized towards Westmoreland County so it can have a little bit more of a hometown touch. But it still has the resources of a much bigger paper.

Well said, Crimson.

I have lived in a community in Maryland for 5 years now. Population is around 15,000 with 4 local high schools and 2 private schools. That's all I know after 5 years. That's it. There isn't a town or county paper. There isn't local businesses that have the "Go Cougars" painted across the glass on the store front. There isn't a parade and fireworks when they win an individual or team title. There isn't discussion at the local cafe about big upcoming rivalry game.

So instead of complaining about the coverage you do have, how about you respect the fact that local writers/reporters that are barely paid a livable wage are driving out in the snowstorm with their 2007 Ford Focus to a high school gymnasium 45 minutes away to report on a wrestling match, girls volleyball game, or cheer competition.

My wife is from Philadelphia area and a Penn State grad. The first time she knew that John Harrah was from a few blocks from her home and the neighboring rival school district was Saturday at the Palestra when they announced mentioned the Philadelphia connections of players on the roster. He is a large contributor to a ranked Penn State basketball team and someone that grew up a handful of blocks away. My wife as an avid sports fan and huge Penn State fan didn't even know this. Yet, in our area it is not uncommon for a few times a year to have an update on the evening news or in the newspaper about a handful of local athletes playing DIII ball a few counties away. Do you guys remember the buzz when the Nastasi's were competing at the D1 collegiate level? We still hear about the local kids that walked on D1 colleges and celebrate them just making the roster.

Be thankful for what we have and stop dwelling on silly things like "they are too nice to Penn State on the evening news" or "the AP news story on Pitt's win focused on the record of the opposing team too much."

St Francis basketball and UPJ Wrestling got front page coverage today.

In addition to the three Pittsburgh professional teams, Pitt and Penn State, the TD covers at least 28 high schools, four local colleges and the Johnstown Tomahawks.

It’s currently high school basketball season (boys and girls), wrestling season, ice hockey season, swimming season and rifle season. (No reporter covered last night’s Northern Cambria-Conemaugh Township rifle match by the way).

Throw in the AP columns and coverage of all major national sports events and you really do have to acknowledge that The Tribune Democrat is still a darn good newspaper.
