First and 10 from Ridges 15 with Ridge only up 12-7 with about 7 minutes to go in the game. Holding then Unsportsmanlike penalties. 1st and 35. False start, 1st and 40. Offensive pass interference, and apparently this is a loss of down? 2nd and 55. Tell me how they DIDN'T help Ridge get a W last night????

NERD55
2 unsportsman like penalties on the Mo Valley coaching staff ? I would say the coaches took any chance they had away from their own players. The coach should never loose his composure on the sidelines, it just trickles down to the players and it did. Outcome was 2nd and 55, and a 20-7 Ridge win.

Sure, Ridge got some calls that, had they not gotten, might have changed the way things played out in the end. The MO V players certainly deserved better from their coach. Before people want to start crucifying the refs, they should, as Bosshog notes, point most of the blame at the coach and his inexcusable behavior. It's an awful way to end a career.
But there's also the fact that before all this happened, the Ridge line was finally beginning to handle an excellent MO V line and get a big surge on almost every play. Throw in the fact that Miller was playing like he was possessed. It was as gritty, hard-nosed running as I've seen from a Ridge back in years. He wasn't to be denied. Also give Brandon kudos for crediting the O line. Ridge was not going to lose that game, even if it came down to the last minute.
With all respect to the announcers, (T. Diehl's a good friend and was an excellent football coach), but the game they were calling and the game being played on the field often didn't seem to resemble each other. It wasn't entirely the announcers' fault, either. Both Ridge and MO V wore gold pants. Add the muddy white MO V jerseys and the muddy dark blue Ridge jersey and the muddy field with most of the lines obliterated, I'm sure things were hard to pick up at times.
And finally, for those of us who have been traveling to Houtzdale for years and watching varsity, JV, and Jr. Hi Lion teams get hosed by the refs, there was a kind of poetic justice to last night's affair.

ham i wouldnt say ridge got lucky, all they did was schedule themselves a second round manhandling/slaughtering by the forest hill JV second stringers. and you thought the penn state illinois game was bad, just wait till week 11. believe it or not i am actually cheering for ridge to win their first playoff game, 100% cheering for ridge, GO RIDGE. just becuase i want to see the "Sidman Massacre!".
and whats this about coaches and 2 unsportsmanlike penalties moving the ball back when it was 1st and whatever close to the goalline? sounds alot like what ol boy max did to bedford in the 2000 semis against bellwood....good job dude!

Foggy - you're right about Brandon. What a great performance and a class act.
It seemed to me that Mo Valley was keying on Downey. And once they started giving the ball to Brandon, they didn't adjust.
I don't know about all the calls and I certainly don't know everything what the players and coaches were doing. But I will share this. A few weeks ago I was talking to a friend that went to Claysburg. He said some of their most heated games were against Mo Valley and at that time (15 years ago) the players, coaches and fans were the dirtiest he ever seen. He ended up getting into a fight and thrown out one game his senior year, and this is about the most mild mannered guy you could ever meet. And you do the math, the same coach was there then as was there last night.
When it all unraveled, I'm pretty sure that it was 1st and 55, not 2nd and 55 like the paper mentioned. I also don't believe the paper had the right sequence of penalties. I thought that the first penalty was a 15 yard personal foul against the RB who was stopped in the backfield on 1st and 10 after he was tackled. Then I thought the MV bench was ticked because they thought it was a late hit, drawing a 2nd 15 yarder (and the 2nd unsportsmanlike in the game for the bench) and the ejection of the coach. Then the offensive pass interference on the next play (which by the way was a great catch). Can someone clarify that?
