A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE OF "2005 & 06"

W.P.I.A.L. Basketball Terrific Ten - Girls Class (AA)

The "2005-2006" W.P.I.A.L. basketball season tips off on Friday, December 2nd.

Here are the Top "10" teams and players in Girls Class (AA).

Top Ten Girls Class (AA) Teams:
(final 2004-2005 regular season record in parenthesis)

1) Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions (17-5)

2) Avonworth Antelopes (23-0) *2005 WPIAL Champions

3) Bishop Canevin Crusaders (17-7)

4) Seton-LaSalle Rebels (19-5)

5) Washington Little Prexies (16-6)

6) Riverview Raiders (21-3)

7) Shady Side Academy Indians (18-6)

8) Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers (21-3)

9) Neshannock Lancers (13-10)

10) Carlynton Cougars (15-8)


Top Ten Girls Class (AA) Players:

Micki Cerchiaro, OLSH, 5-10, Soph., F
She burst on the scene last year as a freshman averaging 14 points a game.

Elise Crummie, Riverview, 5-7, Sr., G
One of the top players in Section 4 last year as she averaged 19.3 points a game for section champion.

Vanessa Davison, Washington, 6-0, Sr., G
Coaches voted her the top player in Section 5 last year. Averaged 19 points a game as Little Prexies tied Fort Cherry for section title.

Lauren Donahoe, Greensburg Central Catholic, , Sr., F
Has signed with St. Francis, Pa. Averaged 7 points a game last season.

Taylor Gallupe, Avonworth, 5-8, Jr., F
Avonworth lost a number of key players from last year's team that won the WPIAL title and finished 28-1. Gallupe will be counted on to be a leader this season.

Maggie Gibson, Greensburg Central Catholic, 6-0, Sr., F
Averaged 14.7 points a game as a junior. Being recruited by small colleges.

Alaina Hartman, Bishop Canevin, 5-7, Sr., G
Hartman figures to be one of the top guards in Section 3. She averaged 16.4 points last season and made all-section.

Ashley Henderson, Greensburg Central Catholic, 5-10, Jr., G
Although she is only a junior, Henderson already has made verbal commitment to Pitt. Averaged 14 points and 4 assists a game last season.

Jaqualla Kessler, Wilkinsburg, 5-7, Jr., G
Wilkinsburg was 10-13 last year, but don't underestimate the talents of Kessler, who averaged 16 points and made all-section last season.

Megan O'Keefe, Seton-LaSalle, 5-9, Jr., G
Made all-section last year as a sophomore. Averaged 11.1 points a game.

Kelly Preston, Neshannock, 5-6, Sr., G
Neshannock made the playoffs last year and Preston was one of the main reasons, averaging 11 points and making all-section.

Stephanie Woelfel, Shady Side Academy — 5-7, Sr., F
A versatile player who averaged 14.9 points as a junior. for team that finished second in the section.

W.P.I.A.L. Class Player of the Year last season. Has made verbal commitment to Colgate. Averaged 19.2 points last year and has 1,395 for career.

Chaqua Locke, Clairton, 5-11, Jr., C
An imposing force who averaged 16 points a game last season.

Kaitlyn March, Rochester, 5-9, Sr., G
Has 900 career points. Averaged 17 points a game last year and was an all-WPIAL Class A selection.

Brittany Matta, Serra Catholic, 5-8, Sr., G-F
Combines with Laura Grimm for potent one-two punch. Averaged 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds as a junior and has 1,045 career points.

Katie Norris, St. Joseph, 5-10, Sr., C
Made all-section as a junior after averaging 13.4 points.

Perrial Pearson, Monessen, 5-11, Sr., C
Strong inside player who averaged 15.7 points last season.

Rachel Phillips, West Greene, 5-6, Sr., G
Daughter of West Greene coach Shane Phillips. Was second in the WPIAL in scoring last year with a 29.8 average and was all-Class A. Has a chance to score 2,000 career points.

Selena Rowan, Monaca, 5-10, Sr., F
Averaged 11 points and 5.7 rebounds a game last year for WPIAL playoff team.

Megan Stuvek, Carmichaels, 6-1, Jr., C
A force scoring and rebounding. Averaged 20.3 points and 15 rebounds as a junior. Has 795 career points.

Bridget Walker, Duquesne, 5-8, Jr., G
Averaged 14 points as a sophomore and was an all-section pick.
