Craig Sheehan

Post by Pale Rider »

I heard on the Ch. 6 news the other night, and read in the Trib-D obits of the senseless death of former Central Cambria standout wrestler, Craig Sheehan. He chose to hang himself , over, unsubstantiated rumor, problems with a girl. This sounds like the Brian Angelotti thing all over again. I respected his performances as a CC wrestler, he was certainly one of the better ones around here the past few years. I have a question that will never truly be fully answered, by I guess anyone, but here goes.

What is it about the individual psyche of a wrestler that would cause an individual to do something like this. We had this, we had Angelotti, we had Benton, and possibly a couple others from the surrounding area I cannot remember. Is it because this sport, unlike ANY other, has so much pressure on an individual to excel and win, on that mano-a-mano basis? Is that how the individual's entire life is lived? Constant pressures to be the best, but if you do not attain the goal all is lost? Do our athletes in this sport need counseling besides the leadership provided by our coaches, who for the most part I would say are pretty decent guys, from what others say about them? There are a couple, I'm sure, who have the "win at all costs" mentality about them, but most of our kids, thank GOD, don't feel they're failures just because some things don't go right in their sport or in their life. I don't understand, but with the help of GOD, and prayer, maybe someday we can, if only a little bit.

May GOD rest Craig Sheehan's soul, and provide his grieving family and friends with some comfort.

For those with the need to get at me for posting a tragic story like this, I suggest you start with Marty Radovanic @ Ch. 6 News. In many instances, the truth hurts. But then rumors and lies are squelched and those concerned grieve and move on. It was not my intent to post this for any notoriety- I am tired of hearing of senseless tragedies like this to some of our finest individuals. Note that I didn't say athletes, because average Joe has the same feelings as a star athlete, maybe different pressures. It is just as sad when it happens to the ordinary guy or girl. I don't understand the compulsion to take your own life.

I guess I just typed this crap to see myself in print. Obviously, people either A. didn't like him, or B. hate CC wrestling. Sad nonetheless.

I didn't personally know Cgraig and have nothing against CC wrestling.
Anytime a young person like this takes their own life it is a tragic and sad loss. I don't really feel it your your place or buisness to go into details about the way this young man died. I feel a little respect for him, his family and friends is warrented here.
I understand that you are most likely a good person that is very concered about this topic I just don't feel we need to be naming names. Let these young men RIP.
As far as your comments about whether this has something to do with wrestling. I would say at least part can be attributed to wrestling. As you said wrestling is the ultimate mano-a-mano sport. Lots of pride and even arrogance are involved in wrestling. So the loss of a girlfriend as we all knowcan be one of the biggest shots to our pride.

At this point I really think the reason in a moot point. All that concerns me is that a member of the wrestling family (I believe we are all family in this sport, no matter what school you are from) has lost their life. This is a tragic event and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I can remember talking to him and I have to say he was a truely nice kid and never got a big head or was ever cocky and he will be really missed in all of hearts..... My thought go out to his friends and family.

This is another example of how much pressure so many student-athletes are feeling these days. Pray for those that have been affected by this tragedy.

....Craig Sheehan...my thoughts, prayers, and heart-felt sadness go out to Craig's family, friends, and the school district as a whole.

This must be a tough time for the Central Cambria School District, as being from Penn Cambria I know how a loss like this can emotionally displace a school.

When did this happen? I haven't heard word on it, thought I would have if it happened a few days ago.
