True. I do read that paper. Which gives me false information half of the time.
Yea they have to have something to go by. How about their football knowledge? Oh wait, they have none so they have to go by the stats only. Lets see, our "High School" expert insists on just talking about her picks every week and lists the teams stats from the week before. Great insight. We have Ethan Blough who picks against the schools he hated in high school just because. Great knowledge there.
Then we have the only person on the Sports staff who knows anything. He writes one article a week on high school football, it usually is actually worth reading. The only problem is that the Tribune assigned that guy to write on the Johnstown Chiefs every week. What a waste.
The problem is when you go on only stats too many good players are left out. For instance, if you are a good linebacker or d lineman and you draw a double team every play, obviously you aren't going to get the stats Johnny Hobo does from Nowhereville. Some goes if you draw a double team as a wideout.
My point being that stats don't always tell the tale, and there are a lot of good players who are left off every year for that reason. This point alone just shows how little credibility that newspaper has.
It's a shame that an honor that means so much to these kids is determined by mostly stats. Also, notice how the Tribune waits every year until after the All State team is put out. Why? Because they are afraid to look like idiots when they don't make someone All-Area when they were named All-State. Gee, that shows a lot of confidence in their capibilities.

And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!
