W.P.I.A.L. Recruiting: Pair of Quad-(A) Standouts Make Their College Picks....
1/19/2006 -

Two W.P.I.A.L. Class (AAAA) football players have made a verbal agreement to play at the next level. Franklin Regional running back Robbie Armstrong has decided on a Big East school while Baldwin defensive back Cart Kelly is Ivy League bound.

Armstrong has selected the University of Cincinnati over the Naval Academy, Buffalo and Toledo. The 6'3, 195-pound running back picked the Bearcats in part because they will give him a shot at tailback rather than fullback or linebacker.

Armstrong becomes the fourth Division I recruit this year off of the W.P.I.A.L. and P.I.A.A. Class (AAA) champion Franklin Regional Panthers. The others are John Malecki going to Pitt, safety Brad Phillips headed to Northwestern and linebacker Aaron Levine who made a verbal commitment to Cornell.

A key part to the Panthers memorable year, Armstrong rushed for 2,284 yards and 27 touchdowns on 299 carries this season.

Meanwhile, Baldwin's Cart Kelly turned down several opportunities to play Division I football by deciding on attending Princeton University. The Ivy League is Division I-AA and does not give out athletic scholarships.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Kelly had 34 catches for 601 yards and five touchdowns at receiver and three interceptions at cornerback for the Highlanders this past season.

Kelly excels in the classroom as well as on the field. He has a 4.1 grade-point average and scored 1,290 on the SAT.

In choosing Princeton, Kelly turned down Division I scholarship offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami of Ohio, New Mexico State, Temple and Toledo.
