A Sign of the Annual Exodus from Oakland is About to Begin??
Re: A Sign of the Annual Exodus from Oakland is About to Beg
PSU did not go after him????? Like the Tribune Review said, "Paterno AND Bradley were at Duquesne High School last Wednesday. Why? Because they were INTERESTED in swaying Fields to Penn State. It really irks you guys that he chose Pitt, doesn't it? All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

Uh, I said offered a scholarship. Last time I checked you could still recruit players to come and not offer them a scholarship. I am pretty sure Norwood was in this boat before. I for one could care less who Pitt gets and would rather a recruit go to them over Ohio State or any other Big Ten team. The result will be the same for PItt at the end of the year. Giving up 450 rushing yards and a humiliating loss to WVU.
Keep building that wall, you sure are going to need it next year when Bradley cherry picks whoever he wants out of the WPIAL.

They didn't start going after Fields real hard until a week ago. He's a last minute replacement for someone PSU obviously lost already, who they felt was a better prospect than he is. If I was Fields I wouldn't have went to PSU anyways, because of that fact. Isn't it funny how they start coming around and throwing an offer on the table a few days before LOI day. If Pitt was pushing for him for a year, and so was WVU and UVA and Ohio State and whoever else, I personally would pick a school who was on board all along. Unless I was a die hard PSU fan.
And just because he committed doesn't mean he's even gonna play. Like McCoy, Fields' grades were a deterrent in the eyes of Penn State and many other schools. Even Virginia Tech told McCoy to go to a prep school.

Let me tell you guys how bad you look. When Pitt got all those kids from Western Pa, all of the sudden it's "next year when the real recruiting battle will begin". Now, when Fields chooses Pitt, it's "well, psu really didn't want him. Probably didn't offer him a scholarship anyway. Probably won't be eligible", even though Paterno and Bradley met with him at his high school 5 days ago. Next thing you'll tell us is that PSU will NEVER schedule a I-AA opponent.

Read my posts and pay 9.95 for Scout. If you think that PSU really recruited hard in the WPIAL this year then you are really a typical Pitt fan: dilusional. Keep thinking that Pitt really pulled one over on PSU in recruiting this year. There was a HELL of a lot more talent in MD and we took 99% of it back to State.

Well, if there was little talent in Pa this year, then why is Pitt's class, with all those Pa kids, ranked so high??? Maybe the experts don't know what they are talking about?

Never said there was not talent, nor did I ever say that Pitt did not have a good class. I said there was a lot more talent in MD, and PSU went after, and got it. PSU got 4 out of the top 10 players in PA, and McCoy announcing on Wed has PSU in his top two. Pitt got 1.

Since when is the top 10 criteria for a good class? The way I see it, Pitt got alot of early committments for Pa kids and PSU backed off. They just gave up going after these kids.

Backed off what? PA kids? The PA kids that PSU went after, they got, with very few exceptions.
Here's a tad bit of a secret: there is more to PA football then that is found in the WPIAL. So far the only coach who thinks or is stupid enough to suggest that a MNC can be won with only talent from the WPIAL is Dave Pornstache. And as I said, we'll see if he is even able to win the Big East in the next five years.

Maybe Chico from the Pittsburgh paper has you more dellusional than I thought. PSU has many kids from Pennsylvania who are ranked very highly. Devlin is the #1 QB in the state, who broke state records in high school.
Now, you say Pitt has a better class than PSU? If Penn State is 6th and Pitt is 23rd, who has the better class? 23 is higher than 6? At one point Pitt was 11th. They have dropped off. Penn State went from 33rd to 5th. Now, you tell me how it makes sense in your head who has a better recruiting class as far as potential talent.
I agree that you need to start in your surrounding area and get those players when you are an "up and coming team" (and I use that very loosely since Pitt has been up and coming for a hundred years and still sucks) but go outside Western PA and talk to kids about Pitt football. When's the last time Pitt stole a kid off UVA or Ohio State or Miami?
