Glendale girls wins the 05-06 Moshannon Valley League Title.
Lewistown Girls win the MAC Section #2 Championship
Shannon Yingling, a senior at Bishop McCort, scored her 1000th point on Friday January 6 vs Somerset. She is currently 6th on the career scoring list with 1082 points.
Pete O'Connor, a senior at Bishop McCort, scored his 1000th point on Monday January 9 vs Bald Eagle. He is currently 7th on the career scoring list with 1155 points.
On Thursday evening (1/26/06) against WestPAC rival Ferndale, Conemaugh Valley's Samantha Pollino scored 18 points in a 60-36 victory over the Yellow Jackets. In doing so, Samantha surpassed the 2,000 point plateau for her career. To date, Sam has 2,013 points to go along with her 1,000+ rebounds.
On January 24th, in a 75-32 victory against Philipsburg-Osceola, Bishop Guilfoyle Lady Marauder coach Mark Moschella notched his 300th win. Now in his 14th season, he has a 300-112 career record.
Cambria Heights junior Amber Dubyak passed the 1200 point mark on Friday. Amber is now Number 2 on the All-Time girls scoring list at Cambria Heights. She trails the All-time scorer Jeff Kosto by 400 points.
Senior Katie Lintner (Westmont-Hilltop) passed the 1,000 points scoring plateau on Saturday, January 21st against Trinity, the #2 ranked team in the state. She was 7 shy of the mark heading into the game. She scored only 5 first half points, and exploded for 19 second half points to pass the mark and help her team earn the victory. She is currently the 8th all time scorer in Westmont girls basketball history. She is also shooting an amazing 88% from the free throw line.
Westmont-Hilltop Junior Kelly Britcher has moved up to the 4th all time leading scorer in Westmont girls basketball history.
Garrett Speck of Southern Huntingdon scored 28 pts. against Mt. Union on Friday, January 20 to reach the 1000 pt. plateau. He needed 17 pts. going into the game.
After losing the first game of the season, the Southern Huntingdon Boys Basketball team won, a school record, 14 games in a row, before losing to Mt. Union in overtime, 59 - 57. The Rockets are off to the best start, 14 - 2, in the 45 year history of the school.
Corey Lightner scored 33 points on Thursday, January 12th to reach 1000 points and lead Juniata Valley to a 92-61 win over Mount Union.
Senior Samantha Pollino of Conemaugh Valley surpassed 1,000 career rebounds last night (1-11-06) against Blacklick Valley. She did it with 4:30 remaining in the first quarter as CV beat WestPAC rival BV 64-24.
Steve Heidenthal, a 6' 6" senior at Penns Manor, scored his 1000th point Monday night ( 1/1/06) in the third quarter of the game against Penn Cambria. He needed 18 points to score 1000 and he ended up with 23 points for the game.
Dan Myers, senior, from Forest Hills hit his 1,000 point milestone on Friday night (January 9) at Penn Cambria. He needed 28 points and hit the last score with 50 seconds remaining.
Andy Ostach needed 30 points for 1,000 career points going into the championship game of the Kavacik Insurance on 12/30 vs. Tyrone. He ended the game with 31. Andy is a 6'6" junior at Blairsville High School.
Jenna Craig of Lewistown reached her 1,000 points scored, on December 27th, during the Panther Holiday Classic.
Westmont-Hilltop junior Kelly Britcher surpassed the 1,000 points on December 27th against Bishop Guilfoyle. She needed 10 points going in to the game and scored 14. She got the basket in the 3rd quarter on an inbounds play.
State College's Eric Meister, a 6-foot-8 Holy Cross recruit, scored his 1,000th career point against DuBois on Dec. 6.
Jess Valeria of Northern Cambria scored her 1,000 pt. December 21, 2005 in a big Heritage game vs. Marion Center. NC beat MC 53-48 and Jess needed 20 pts. going in and she scored her 20th pt. from the foul line with about 20 seconds left. Northern Cambria is now 5-0 and 4-0 in the Heritage. Jess is a senior guard.
State College Girls' Basketball is celebrating their 40th season.
Junior Amber Dubyak of Cambria Heights scored 24 points to go over 1000 for her career in a 56-35 win over Bedford on 12/16/05.
Hillary Shope from Southern Huntingdon scored her 1000th point on Thursday, Dec. 8 against Glendale. She needed 2 points going into the game, and scored 23 pts. in a 67-53 victory. The win improved the Lady Rockets to 3-1 on the season.
