Basketball coaches hope that their teams will peak at the right time and that time is rapidly drawing near with the regular season winding down in the next two weeks.

Conference championships are next on the schedule.

The West~PAC will play up to Feb. 15th with the championship games set for Feb. 18th at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center. The girls tip off at noon and the boys at 2 p.m.

The Conemaugh Valley girls got by North Star 38-37 last week and now control their own fate in the North Section while the Rockwood girls edged Berlin Brothersvalley 43-41 to firm up their position in the South.

The Conemaugh Valley and Shanksville-Stonycreek boys are currently in the lead in their respective sections with each team still having key games to play. The Blue Jays are up by a game with three section games remaining and the Vikings are up by a game with four section games to go.

In the Laurel Highlands, the Johnstown boys clinched the Section #2 title and Central Cambria, the Section #1 crown.

In the girls bracket, Westmont Hilltop is the Section #2 winner and Central of Martinsburg earned the Section #1 spot.

The L.H.A.C. title games will be played Feb. 18th at Bishop Carroll High School with the Lady Hilltoppers and Scarlet Dragons to tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the Trojans and the Red Devils.

The Heritage Conference doesn’t hold championship games but currently Blairsville, the No. #1 team in the state in Class (A) boys, holds the top spot. The Saltsburg girls are still unbeaten in league play.

Scratch the above previous post. It seems that Bald Eagle Area has "backed" into the #1 seed in D6-AA. They have won a forfeit over Delaware Valley Charter whom they lost to earlier in the season. It seems that Delaware Valley used an ineligible player.

Westmont drops to the #2 seed.

With all due respect IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE...Any 6-AA teams who make PIAAs will be promptly disposed of by at least 20 points by the likes of BFalls, Quippa, Quaker Valley, Jeannette, etc.

Then make no mistake about it: Phila Charter will destroy the WPIAL AA rep in the PIAA title game.
