And The Cupboard Was Bare

Post by vman »

[web]http://pittsburgh.rivals.com/commitlist.asp[/web]

One can click on different years for list of commits. Of particular interest are the recruiting classes of '02 & '03. These would have been last yrs seniors & this yrs seniors.

Now a friend of mine a Dr., Pitt grad & former OL from Pitt (played tackle opposite DW) reminded me this w/e how bad Walt recruited, esp in last couple of years! Vman told buddy that he has been harping to others (like Nitwit fans) that the cupboard was indeed bare when DW arrived! Doc told me just go on link & check out the classes WH brought in! Vman also conceded that Tom B did ,in fact, kick Walt's butt in W Pa for years!

Looking @ '02 there are only 9 players who started or contributed as seniors last yr., or are on the depth charts this yr as 5th yr seniors! Interestingly, not one of those players is/was an interior D-lineman.
Not counting Larry F, who left early, 11 kids did not make it till their senior yr &/or never played! 9 contributing seniors, pitiful!

From '03 13 players remain as current seniors. Again not one returning senior is a nose or d-tackle!!!! But at least as damaging is the fact that 13 would be seniors are either gonzo or not on the 3 deep!!! Attrition as high as contributing seniors this year pitiful! Beats the '02 class where more kids did not make 4 years than did!

And '04 was not much better...Phil T was only d-tackle in class that entered that year & he had 2 yrs eligibility, so he is gone......
this is what DW had to work with!!

You don't win ballgames without a D-Line plain & simple! Hence the Utah & WVU debacles of the last couple yrs.!
But all that is changing! Recruiting is obviously up, Pitt will definitely improve this yr & as the Defense continues to develop d-lineman this program will turn around!

Not surprised (You have no idea what I'm talking about) even though it is a simple concept! Walt's recruiting $u(K3d, as did your post!!

You're not gonna get a card for "sucked".

I'm not gonna defend Walt Harris, you all know I never liked him and always thought he was a guy who can get you 9 wins but never 12. You can show all this stuff, all you want. No one in the Pitt nation disliked Harris. Fact remains that Harris recruited both Blades and Palko, the best players at their position in the whole conference, had at least 2 linemen selected in the last 2 drafts, both of which are already starters on pro teams, took you to 4 straight bowl games, conference titles, a BCS game, and had numerous receivers win awards. It is not Walt's fault that Lee forgot how to catch, and Brockenborough got injured. If those two boneheads would have panned out the way they looked like they would (all conference honors) Pitt would have been bowl eligible last year and done a lot better in 04.

But once again, I am not replying to this thread again, I am not gonna be the one sticking up for Harris, regardless of how jaded you guys really are about Wannstedt. Not one Pitt fan that I know ever said a slanderous remark about Walt Harris until recently, and a lot of you act like you never defended him or loved him to death. All of a sudden Walt Harris is no longer the "hey, lay off, he got us to 4 straight bowls and we are on our way up", now he's the "he was never that good anyways" guy.

Until you can count to 3[/quote]

Please explain?? Did you have trouble calculating when incoming recruits would be in their senior seasons? If you need some math tutoring, we can hook you up with Moldy & have double the fun. We could use Pitt/UPS word problems to spur some mathematical conversation!

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

I yelled to start the bus @ halftime of the U Conn debacle a couple yrs ago(following the late first half slide) & I would have thrown Walt under the tires. The writing was on the wall from that moment on he was a lame duck coach. And 4 straight bowls was as much a testament to some tough, over achieving kids as to his leadership! His recruiting was obviously struggling and too many of his commits were bailing! Now he did have Pitt play well in some big games years back but his issues/deficiencies were evidenced the longer he coached!

And frosty you still hung up on fact that for like 6 yrs you had 2 wins vs top 20 teams, when you claim it was 3? I assume that was the logic behind the count to 3 dig?
Interesting again that when you post FACTS, like the aforementioned recruiting classes, the nittys back off. Walt in fact, as previously mentioned left Pitt's cupboard bare; reaffirming my stated observation that you all have trouble with reality, facts, the truth, however you want to term it!
