90% homegames.
No consistency in # of games from year to year.
Era's of unlimited scholarships.
Multiple, if not dozens, of people, services, etc declaring the national champion. At worse, today we have at most two teams who share, in that era two, three, universities could claim in any given year they were the national champ.
Initial point: national championships of that era are not similar to what they are today.

Re: 12-0
So Frosty,
You might have a point if PSU didn't also play during that era. Since there were so many national championships to go around, why didn't PSU win one? Probably took 80 years or so to get over having the school colors as pink and black.
Also, the 85 scholarship limit has only been in affect during the 90's, so I guess no team in PA really has any right to celebrate anything called a national championship.

Big difference from "unlimited".

Re: 12-0
PSU is something like 50-41-3 against Pitt all-time...HARDLY dominant!
Like some of the posts say...Had PSU won those titles way back when, their blind fans would be trumpeting their successes!
9-2...Thanks to Guman's uncle!!!!!

Re: 12-0
Some Frostline "fallacies" I would like to refute:
FROSTLION "90% homegames. "- UNTRUE
Not sure exactly what time period your including but in only 3 individual seasons since 1915 did Pitt have 90% home games. Generally they were in the 50-70% range and how is that different from Penn State's schedule today?
FROSTLION "No consistency in # of games from year to year." - RIDICULOUS....you really should look this stuff up before you make a fool of yourself.
They played 9 or 10 reg. season games (10 was the max at that time) EVERY season with the exception of the real early years when they played 8 games in 1915,16, and 1920. Remember that 1918 was the flu epidemic season in which nobody played until mid Oct. so you can't count that.
FROSTLION "Era's of unlimited scholarships." - TRUE....but was this just for Pitt or did every other school have the same opportunities. Using "frostylogic" every time there is a scholarship or major rule change we should forget about the past national champs...they don't count anymore! Seems that others including PSU could have done the same thing. The rules were the same for everyone.
FROSTLION "Multiple, if not dozens, of people, services, etc declaring the national champion. At worse, today we have at most two teams who share, in that era two, three, universities could claim in any given year they were the national champ." - THIS IS MY FAVORITE....AGAIN TOTALLY UNTRUE
According to the NCAA Official recordbooks there are just as many organizations claiming National championships today as in the past. In fact 5 different schools claimed National Titles in 1970! 4 claimed national titles in one year as recently as 1993! Let's compare with the bygone era....There were 5 (matching the 1970 #) in 1921 and 4 (matching the 1993 number) in 1933. Other than that there were generally only 2 or 3 who claimed national titles in any given year.
FROSTLION "Initial point: national championships of that era are not similar to what they are today"
My point....Think what you want but please please do some research before you shoot your mouth off. Funny thing is all the PSU'ites probably believe you without FACTS.
Excuse me as I have a tailgate in Pittsburgh to get to in a couple hours!
