Super Conference to be started "2008-9"

Post by THE CHOPS »

District # 4 Super Conference to start in "2008-09"
9/27/2006,
The Associated Press

(AP) — Twenty-five schools in District 4 plan to scrap their leagues to form an all-sports super conference beginning in the 2008-09 school year.

Schools currently playing in the Central Susquehanna Conference, the Susquehanna Valley League and the Mid-Penn Conference, a small-school league not to be confused with a larger Harrisburg-area conference of the same name, will form the league.

Football will be among the sports included, though an exception may be made for Williamsport. That school is much bigger than most of the schools, so league organizers have proposed that Williamsport be excluded from scheduling in the sports in which it is Class (AAAA).

If Williamsport is admitted in other sports, the new league would cover schools in seven counties: Northumberland, Snyder, Union, Montour, Columbia, Sullivan and Lycoming.

That would include two Northumberland schools, Shamokin and Mount Carmel, which sought and were denied membership in the Central Susquehanna Conference. Shamokin and Mount Carmel currently play independent football schedules, but have league affiliations in other sports.

FORMER MEYERS COACH DIES:@ Mickey Gorham, a longtime football coach who mentored future NFL players Raghib "Rocket" Ismail and Qadry Ismail, died at the age of 68.

Gorham coached had a record of 165-86-2 during 24 seasons at Wilkes-Barre Meyers.

Gorham, who played college football at Notre Dame, also served at times as Meyers' athletic director, assistant principal and principal.

He was the Meyers coach when the Ismail brothers were in school during the 1980s.
Gorham was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1994.

YORK TECH COACH RETURNS:@ York Tech football coach Mike Ketterman returned to the sidelines after spending a week in a hospital with viral meningitis.

Ketterman initially began having pain in his stomach on Sept. 14. He was admitted to a York area hospital and was placed on intravenous fluids for six days.

Assistant coaches Buddy Looks and Brian McAuliffe ran the team in Ketterman's absence. York Tech is off to a 1-3 start.

THE BAND MARCHES ... HOME:@ The band will stay home this year.

The Pennsbury High School marching band will not perform this week when the school's football team plays at North Penn.

Last year, the Pennsbury band marched on its home field while the visiting North Penn football team was going through its pre-game drills. Both units ended up sharing the same space.

At one point, North Penn coach Dick Beck allegedly grabbed a clarinet player's arm. He claimed it was to keep her out of harm's way, although the parents of the band member later filed a summary harassment charge. Beck was found innocent of the charge on April 24.

School officials are not saying if last year's actions prompted them to keep the band off North Penn's field this season.

I care...I'm right in the middle of district 4 and tend to watch a lot of district 4 football games. ie southern, shamokin, and mount carmel
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Learn to read CHOPS!!! It says LHAC Heritage and WestPac Conferences. Not District 4. I like good information and knowledge. Just not when it isnt where it is suppose to be. For example. I liked to know that my wife cheated on me. Good Info. Just didnt want to catch her in my sleeping quarters with the dude(and I didnt). Hence if I wanted to read about district 4, I would do it elsewhere. Not where is covers conferences that don't involve district 4.
