W.P.I.A.L. Coaching Changes: Butler Football Hire, Oakland Cath. Girls Hoops Opening

While a W.P.I.A.L. Class (AAAA) high school football coaching vacancy has been filled, a large job has opened up in girls Class (AAAA) basketball. The Butler Golden Tornado now have a new coach while the search begins for a new coach at Oakland Catholic.
* Jeff McAnallen has been named the new football coach at Butler, taking over for Garry Cathell whose contract was not renewed following a 3-7 season this past fall. McAnallen has been an assistant coach under Jack McCurry at North Hills High School for the past ten years. McAnallan, who is a 1990 graduate of Butler High School, was also hired as a teacher and as an assistant athletic director.
* Rich Irr has resigned as head coach of the highly successful Oakland Catholic Eagles girls basketball program after four years. Irr sited family reasons for stepping down, which he said he decided to do well before this past season began. Irr did a great job keeping the Eagles program flying high after taking over for Suzie McConnell-Serio in 2003. Irr's four year record wans an incredible 107-18 with four trips to the WPIAL finals, two district championships and a PIAA state title in 2005.
