St. Josephs opted not to make the trip. Several other games were delayed. Ambridge and CC didn't get started till about 9:30....Ford City girls didn't arrive for their game until about 8:15 (8:00 scheduled start) and they got going around 9, similar situations happened throughout the west.

Con. Twp. was only missing one starter that I could tell (Gennett)....Ford City had the two best players on the floor and PSU coaching staff was in attendance to watch their center, who was a smooth player about 6'4". Both those players had foul problems and the game was CT's for the taking but they wilted and FC's studesses played very well and took complete control of the game. Ford City's other players were like many teams JV's around here, they just weren't very good at all. They somehow survived playing with only one of their two studs for much of the game and even for about 2:00 during one stretch at the end of the third period.

...Maybe Central Cambria isn't the second coming of the Boston Celtics...I saw they registered a 6 point blowout win against 10W-15L Ambridge...

From today's Tribune-Democrat story:
“We played a good team out there, and we had to work a little bit harder because we were missing two starters,” Indians coach Joe DiBartola said. “But you can’t take anything away from Ford City, they knew what they had to do. They’re a quality team, they knew who to go to when they had to get things done.”

I don't follow them that closely. I was only quoting the coach.

I'm not sure either sydfinch....it's only the third time I've seen them myself. Gennett was the obvious and from what I'm told she would have been back for Tuesday if they had won. It's a shame, they are one of the better AA teams talent-wise to ever play in D5 and it was, even without Gennett, a very winnable game. A N.Cambria vs CT matchup in the next round would have been very interesting (Assuming Gennett would have been back)

CC was lucky to win. The worst state playoff game maybe ever played less than 200 fans no one wanted to be there

The CC ambridge game was delayed for about 2 and a half hours from its scheduled start at 7:30. Ambridge was caught up in bad weather and almost turned back to play the game on saturday instead, but PIAA officials told them otherwise. Afeter the long delay almost all the "casual fans"--people other than player's parents--seemed to give up on the wait and they went home. The actual game started around 10:00 and ended after 11. Both teams played sloppy ball and were lethargic. The game was boring and CC came out with a sloppy win, but you can probably blame the score somewhat on the outrageous delay and just poor play. I've never seen a team sit around for 3 and a half hours to wait for their game to start (CC probably got there around 6:30). PIAA made a mistake with this one--no team should wait THAT long and no basketball game should start around or after 10.
