Re: Its early but.........
Maybe the LHAC is thinking about dividing more along a North/South line. If this is the case, then BC being in Northern Cambria County would be with CC,FH,CH, PC,etc... Bedford is south of these teams, and really not that far from Johnstown and Somerset. The line would run between Richland and Forest Hills.
Re: Its early but.........
Thanks Coach for helping our friend ou812 out with the geography lesson. I presume that he/she hasn't looked at a recent map of the Commonwealth in years, or something like that.
Re: Its early but.........
Isn't Bedford SOUTH of all the schools in the LHAC? That was my point. Not just the few you mentioned. Not exactly sure what latitude Somerset is on. No geography lesson needed. The 2 "closest" schools to Bedford are Richland and BG. Much closer than Johnstown. And both are north of Bedford, as is the rest of the LHAC. So what did you mean, close proximity or geography. No need to slam me for asking, soup. BG is north of Bedford and Somerset is west of Bedford. Johnstown is north-over a big mountain - which happens to be a geographical term.
BG is a way better trip than any of the others, even if it isnt geographically in line with Bedford. It wouldnt make sense to switch the conference around like you say, because BG to Bedford is an easy trip for both schools.
Why not switch the whole conference around if you want to have a geographically correct conference. I think whoever said the switch would occur is hallucinating. Unless of course the LHAC is planning for Chestnut Ridge to become a member. After all, Mr. Shoemaker is the reason for Bedford going to the LHAC and now that he is at Ridge and they do not have a conference affiliation then just maybe he will get them back in the LHAC.

It would be nice to see CR and maybe another school enter. Dividing the conference up into sizes instead of geography could be an interesting idea. You could put AAA Johnstown in a section with large AA's like CC, FH, Bedford, Somerset, and maybe PC (not sure of their enrollment) You could then add in BM because of the advantage they have in drawing from any area (don't want to open a can of worms here). That would leave small AA's like CR, Richland, Heights, BC and BG (because they are the smallest of the Bishops, and you never know how long BC might remain open) Westmont, and another school of comparable size. The teams would play every one in their section plus two or three from the other section on a rotating basis (just like it is now).
Re: Its early but.........
Good idea - coach. But I would like to point out that CR is actually about the same size as Bedford if not bigger (not by much). Bedford is a very small AAA school. I think next year (09/10 season) they are actually dropping to AA in Bball.

Re: Its early but.........
OU812, I didn't realize that CR was that big.
Re: Its early but.........
yeah they graduated more than Bedford last year and the year before too, I think. The reason Bedford is bumped up to AAA in bball is there male population is always over the required PIAA number to be eligible for AA. Either CR has more women or they are fudging numbers to remain at AA in bball. I guess their male / female population must even out pretty well to not be AAA in anything. That is the problem with the bball at Bedford, they are always in D6 AAA instead of D5 AA. The year Bedford was most recently D5AA, they won the District title. They are not really a AAA school.
Re: Its early but.........
I was talking strictly North-South. If the switch isn't happening in '08-'09, it's happening the following year if what I'm hearing is true.
If we're playing "Switch the Conference", then I vote for the three Bishops, JHS, WH, and CC in one section, and the other six are in the other section. While WH may well be smaller than Somerset or PC in numbers, they seem to win the overall LHAC Cup every year.
Actually, there has been talk of D6 putting schools into classes, similar to the WPIAL. Single A teams play A teams, AA vs AA, etc.. That wouldn't be too bad for A and AA teams, but AAA teams around here would have to venture to Lewistown, P-O, Indian Valley, etc.. Somerset wouldn't like it too much, I'd imagine.

If its not broken, dont fix it.
The men and women bball LHAC championships are always close. The winner of the LHAC in football usually comes down to the last week of the season. I dont see a reason to change anything.
