Malik Generett, we hardly knew ye.
Can I please recruit for your team? First, let's take a look at this very bold statement by Bob Lichtenfels of Scout:
Randy Edsall is no stranger to central Pennsylvania since he grew up there, but the UConn coach never forgets where he comes from and often is the first to unearth most of the areas better prospects. It should come as no surprise that Edsall was the first to offer Malik Generett and today it paid off.
Take note of the bold. Who the hell did UCONN steal from Pennsylvania that was worth a "dang"? Regardless, I do think Edsall landed a big time player today when they picked up York High's Malik Generett. Generett flew under everyone's radar, which I guess is because of his junior stats. Let's take a look:
As a junior, Generett caught 31 passes for 420 yards and 4 touchdowns in only eight games. He earned Second Team All-County honors.
Not all that great, right? Let's look at his physical attributes:
Ht: 6-5 Wt: 205 40: 4.5
That kid is a top-caliber prospect based on physical presence alone. How did Penn State or even Pitt miss this kid? Shame on Ohio State and Michigan as well. Now, I do believe there is a greater than zero chance that Generett decommits from UCONN as soon as he has a monster senior season. How could he not? Who is going to cover this kid? What, he's too "fat" to be a WR? South Beach Diet, dude. 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I did it myself on 3 separate occasions without touching a weight or a treadmill. They could have that kid in 4.3 range and down to 190 in a month.
It just grates on me to know that someone up in Happy Valley missed this kid. They need receivers. This is why Penn State needs to pay me to scour the internet all day and find them players who no one else knows exists. You're telling me that if UCONN and Penn State both offered this kid that he'd still pick UCONN?
