Overlooking Oregon State / PSU thoughts
Coach brought up a good point. Myself, I have not really overlooked the Beavers, but from what I have read on them, things aren't looking all that great. Most ranking have them 48th or lower. I dont think Sean Canfield is a very good QB. 58% completions and 9 TDs for 15 picks. They dont really have a strong RB they have had with Stephen Jackson and Yvenson Bernard, either. Starting RB is a freshman. Defense is shaky. What bothers me, though, are those receivers. People have forgotten about Sammie Stroughter, because he missed so much time last season. Look, he didnt miss those games because he was injured. He missed games because his family life is a mess. That kid is an NFL talent. And, coincidentally, where is Penn State looking to be weak? Cornerback.
I'm not surprised Clark was given the starting spot. I think we all knew it was a foregone conclusion. I am a little upset about Devlin not getting the nod, and I do think he'll be gone at the end of the season. Penn State has had nothing but terrible quarterbacking since the early 80's, with the exceptions of Collins and Robinson. There is simply no excuse. I think Clark has the athletic ability that Morelli didn't possess, but Daryl Clark is probably going to have about as many passing mistakes as Morelli and Mills. He's not going to be good.
You take a look at who Penn State is facing this season: Stroughter, all those great OSU receivers, Gary Matthews, Benn, Kyle Jefferson, Greg Orton. Those kids are all wide-receivers who are going to get serious NFL consideration. Can Sargent cover any of those kids? I honestly dont think he can.
