Moldo brings up some good points. If that truly is the case that they only have 6 schollies left, they may miss out on a few big time recruits. However, if you are a good recruiting team, you know talent when you see it. It doesn't matter how many stars that the player may have. Trust me on that one.

Re: Lions add #17 and #18
Go to Rivals and look at how many kids other schools bring in each season. It is in the 20's. Sometimes 30's. Penn State does an excellent job of talking kids into walking on. I dont think The Zuggernaut has a scholarship, and I dont think Colin Wagner does, to name a few. From what I have seen, Devon Smith (commit 18) does NOT have a scholarship offer to Penn State. I dont understand how this all works, and I wish I did. What is a "preferred walk-on"? If anyone knows, please tell me.
Like Moldo said, though, kids leave the program. Josh Marks freed up a scholarship. I'm sure Taylor and Baker did too. And Chris Bell.

Here's a look at Texas, for example.

But then look at Alabama

Re: Lions add #17 and #18
'Bama had a coaching change, which will always throw the numbers off. Many kids will quit or transfer. Also, a preferred walk-on is when the kids do not get any type of full scholarship money as a freshman, but are told that if they are good enough that in the future they probably will. I think they receive enough money to pay for books and that is all. It's usually kids that want to go to a bigger school, but the coaches don't think they are good enough coming out of high school to merit a scholarship offer, but will give them a better shot at the team than a normal walk-on would get.

If a player enrolls for the Spring semester prior to "Intent Day" they can be counted against last years class, similar to what Sukay did, etc.
I have absolutely no concerns about PSU running out of scholarships this year. They will likely take a QB, two more WR's, probably another LB,safety, DE, plus three or four more at various positions.
I remember two or so years ago there being concern about not having an available scholarship for Devlin. The point being, if a spot is "needed" one will be found. Before the bashing starts: all programs do it.

So what you're saying is, if someone BETTER comes along, PSU will "coax" players who are not as good into quitting the team? After all, how else do they find "a spot" that is needed.

I just found this on scout that Ohio State already has 25 commits. Auburn has 25, A&M has 24, Rutgers has 21.
