Vman, I'm surprised at you. You're usually the first one to rip on those who belittle a high school kid.

Earning all state is a great honor for any athlete, but in my opinion the all state team is not always indicative of the best players in the state (especially in the smaller classifications). Is a running back who puts up big numbers in a weak league really better than a back with mediocre numbers in highly competitive league? The numbers don't tell the whole story. Now consider positions that don't even have stats to base your decision. The spots often go to kids whose teams make deep runs into the playoffs and have good media coverage in their area. A kid who is not on a playoff team that is not close to a larger media market doesn't have a great chance of making the all state team.

Coach, I've seen Lowry play atleast 10 times over the past 3 years, like I said I feel he deserves first team all-state (Stats don't win games, big plays do and Lowry had plenty, Hornets). I said Rugg was good but probably shouldn't of been first team but second. I said McCombie and Domonkos were right where they should be, and I said Erickson and Greene shouldn't of even sniffed that list. I have seen all these kids play more than once with the exception of Erickson and I know how they perform. So to say these kids were all deserving to me is like fraud. Face the facts, they weren't and they never are. Whatever your trying to say about teams not making kids it's kids that make teams I still am unsure where your going with? Also it is not hard to be a standout on a 5-6(?) football team like BC. Every team has standouts, this list should be the very best in the state.

Exactly, The all state team isn't a lifetime achievement award. It should be the best in the state. Statistics play a big part of being the best. The best will be making the tackles, have the interceptions when the opportunites are there, etc.

Lowry just plain and simple should not have been 1st team all state as a DB. i don't care how you cut it or try to rationalize the selection.

i'd probably could go along with him being selected as a specialist on the 2nd team for offense or maybe give him 2nd team specialist on defense.... that would be a stretch though.

just for humor, lets go back to Lowry's defensive stats for 06-07 as a sophmore
he had 46 tackles in 11 games for an average of 3.8 tackles/game
he had 2 interceptions

lets go to 07-08 as a junior
he had 62 tackles in 14 games for an average of 4.4 tackles/game
he had 4 interceptions

it looks like he has a career totals of 10 interceptions. Kalgren had that in one year.

its not like he had a big year early in his career like brandon boyd did by being names all-state for 3 years. i'm sorr not one of Lowry's years was all state 1st team worthy.

Anyways, I'm sorry Lowry is NOT worthy of being one of the DB on the 1st team all state.

Shane Rugg is way overratted. He is 6'3 240....There is no way he will survive in college

Not belittling the kid; I seriously have never heard the name; he may well be deserving of all state honors.... I have no clue.
I have to say thank you to me ..." for not being stupid enough to go to Penn State."

i do agree. every team has their standouts.. but whether you think they deserved it or not... it is still nice to see athletes from our area get recognized.
and by the way, kobeballslikeswoosh, shane rugg is getting looked at by notre dame.
