All Stars Game is Slated...
Rosters announced for AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase
Local athletes to take part in all-star games

The rosters for the second AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase spotlight some of the region’s top basketball talent.
The boys and girls doubleheader will be played on March 29 at the Pitt-Johnstown Sports Center. The girls game will begin at 3 p.m., with the boys game to follow at 5.
District 6 Class AAA champion Johnstown High School coach Dave Roman Jr. will front the Greater Johnstown Region senior all-star boys team.
Team members include: Bishop McCort’s Jack Schrey; Johnstown’s Paul Weatherly; Westmont Hilltop’s Chris Kessler; Westmont Hilltop’s Mike Valcheff; Bishop McCort’s Zach Freeman; Johnstown’s Carlton Wyatt; Richland’s Tim Ripple; Forest Hills’ Brett Oswalt; Windber’s Mike Clark; Conemaugh Township’s Matt Duray; and Windber’s Blake Henger.
District 5 Class A champion Shade coach Wade Fyock will lead the Cambria-Somerset senior all-star boys squad.
Team members include: Shade’s Garrett Berkey; Somerset’s Anthony Papini; Shade’s Josh Barnes; North Star’s Luke Zellem; Somerset’s Ryan Fisher; North Star’s Alijah Petrilla; Bishop Carroll’s Luke Paronish; Cambria Heights’ John Link; Laurel Valley’s Patrick Hall; Blacklick Valley’s Taylor Holby; United’s Ross Moreau; and Cambria Heights’ Steve Sharbaugh.
District 6 third-place Ferndale
coach Gene Slobodnick will head the Greater Johnstown Region senior all-star girls.
The team members include: Bishop McCort’s Sarah Pastorek; Richland’s Lauren Hoover; Ferndale’s Jamie Rosequist; Ferndale’s April Eisenhuth; Bishop McCort’s Lindsay Buchan; Johnstown’s Lindsay Lovrich; Bishop McCort’s Maria Felton; Westmont Hilltop’s Kirsten Meenan; and Westmont Hilltop’s Olivia Flick.
District 5-AA champion North Star coach Ed Danel will lead the Cambria-Somerset senior all-star girls.
Team members include: Bishop Carroll’s Mara Weinzierl; North Star’s Sarah Pelesky; Portage’s Becca Enedy; Cambria Heights’ Kristie Malloy; Penn Cambria’s Olivia Urbanek; North Star’s Jess Tomlinson; Rockwood’s Courtney Bowman; Central Cambria’s Ali Maruca; and Ligonier Valley’s Alannah Kurtz.
Other players selected to the team who are unable to participate include: Central Cambria’s Jordan Miller; United’s Bobby Simon; Berlin’s Jackie Kimmel; and Conemaugh Valley’s Carolyn Sharpe.
Tickets available
Tickets are on sale now for the AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase, a high school basketball all-star event to be held March 29 at the UPJ Sports Center.
Tickets are priced at $4 for adults and $2 for students/children. They can be purchased at The Galleria booth on the first floor of the mall, and at The Tribune-Democrat, 425 Locust St. in downtown Johnstown.
Admission can also be obtained at the door on the day of the Showcase.
On the air
Forever Broadcasting will carry the games of the AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase live to fans across the region, Terry Dietz, general manager of the local broadcasting company, has confirmed.
Fans can hear the games on stations WNTJ 1490 AM and WNTW 990 AM. Dietz, who has called local games all season, will handle play-by-play duties.
The Showcase, in its second year, is a high school all-star basketball event featuring the top seniors from across the region.
The games will be played March 29 at the UPJ Sports Center, with the girls tipping off at 3 p.m. followed by the boys at 5.

Six veteran area basketball officials will be on the court for the games of the AmeriServ Senior Hoops Showcase on March 29th at the U.P.J. Sports Center.
Lynn Durst, Don Gibson and Dave Mattis – all of the Windber area – will officiate the girls all-star game, to begin at 3 p.m.
Rick Miller, Barry Saylor and Craig Stahl – all of the Davidsville area – will work the boys all-star game, scheduled for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
The six are members of the Somerset County/District #5 Chapter of P.I.A.A. Officials.
The Showcase will feature the top senior boys and girls players from schools across the Cambria-Somerset region.

Re: All Stars Game is Slated...
I think all-star games a great fun. But some kids do get slighted. Most noticeably missing is McCort's numer 1 scorer and number 3 rebounder, the Spisak kid. Opposing coaches definately had to know where he was on the offensive end 'cause if he caught fire you were in trouble. Ask Jtown, Somerset, CH among some of his victims. Oh well good luck to all the others.
