Area players playing basketball past highschool
Re: Area players playing basketball past highschool
I remember Boyer in Highschool, I always thought he was a solid player then, but he has really improved now. I actually got a chance to talk to him last March while he was on break and he really got a good head on his shoulders......."I'm guessing future coach"Lemmy wrote:John Boyer is a junior at the University at Buffalo from Hollidaysburgh High. Played 17 minutes first game and 22 second game.
After a Max Boudreau free throw knotted the contest at 64, John Boyer stepped up and hit the biggest shot of his career. The reserve point guard nailed a three-pointer from the corner to put the Bulls ahead, 67-64, with 34 seconds left.
Boyer finished the night with nine points and a career-best six rebounds in 22 minutes.

Jackie Garlock, 2005 Bedford grad. Finished up her Career at York College Basketball. The York College Spartans (27-3) women’s basketball program was selected to participate in their first-ever NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. Not only were the Spartans selected as an at-large, pool C bid, but the Spartans also earned the right to host three other teams in the opening weekend of the tournament. The Spartans advanced to the tournament courtesy of a regular season that saw the Green and White go 24-1 including 16-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Westmont Hilltop Boy's Basketball Players Since 2000:
Scott Mezyk:
Two years at UPJ (01-04) with limited minutes then transferred to Bethany College (05-06).
Two years at Bethany College. At Bethany he won two conference championships (PAC) and played in two NCAA Division III Tournaments. Garnered Honorable Mention All Conference honors his Junior year (05) and 1st Team All Conference his Senior year (06).
Nick Mezyk:
Four years at UPJ (02-06). Led all divisions (I, II, and III) in three point percentage his Sophomore year. Started at different times through his first three seasons. Had some bad injuries after his first two years that limited some of his playing time.
Josh Polantz:
Four years at Bethany College (02-06). At Bethany he won two conference championships (PAC) and played in two NCAA Division III Tournaments. Second in school history in career assists as a combo guard. Finished his playing career with the most wins in school history.
Joe Balog:
Mount Aloysius (07-Present???). Had a solid Freshman season and was enjoying a nice Sophomore season but only played the first 8 games. I heard that there were some problems between him and the coaching staff. Did this lead to his departure?
Joey Stephenson:
Mount Aloysius (07-Present). Had a nice Sophomore season shooting 41% from the arc. Should see more playing time in his final two seasons at the Mount.
Have I left anybody off the list since 2000?

Re: Area players playing basketball past highschool
pats39 speaks the truth. Question: Out of all the number of basketball players we have in the D6, D5 area, how many are going D1? Not who could. Who is?
Question: I hear so much said about our girls' teams and the fact that they play "AAU" ball in the summer, but same question: Who is going D1?
Point: We are not a hot bed for basketball.
Why? We don't have 6'5" kids with unreal quickness and a 40" vertical.
Reality: Next year? We won't again.
