Re: COACH ON DECK????
Let me give BC some scoop and background on the whole situation........
When Jr was at Westmont "the 1st time" The administration wanted him to get rid of Cobaugh because of his action and the way he handled their kids. Jr of course would not do that they are friends, so they kind of made things tough for Jr.
Neil and others really pushed for Jr to get the position at Johnstown and after he left, it angered a lot of people who pushed for him. Neil is applying for the job to get back at Jr on the basketball court.
That is a problem for 2 reasons. First if Neil thinks he can out coach Jr he is in for a rude awakening and he will be even more upset after Westmont beats Johnstown this year. Everything he knows is what Jr showed him if he even paid attention because I truly believe he never wanted to be a head basketball coach. 2nd that is no reason to go after a head coaching position. There is a lot that’s goes into building a program and if you are in it for the wrong reasons your not going to last long or be successful.
Let me give Johnstown a word of advice.........
Hire a basketball coach, key word BASKETBALL.
Also hire someone who is going to be around for a long time, through the good and the bad. The last 2 coaches quit on you after very short stays. The program needs some sort of stability.

Re: COACH ON DECK????
The notion that Neil Colbaugh is going to apply for the Johnstown job to get back at Roman on the court is silly. Neil and Dave have been friends and colleagues for a very long time and there is no hard feelings between the two.
The truth of the matter is that Neil has been embedded in the Johnstown system for quite some time now as a football coach, track coach, and teacher. This is another great opportunity for him to take the reigns of another program at Johnstown that he cares about. Because of his many ties at Johnstown Neil was looking to break away from Westmont for quite some time now. The only reason that he stayed at Westmont for the final three or four years of Romans tenure was due to his loyalty to Dave.
RUMOR has it that the two front runners for the Johnstown job are Ryan Durham and Neil Colbaugh. The speculation that I have heard is that if Neil is hired as the head coach then Durham will follow Roman to Westmont to be his assistant coach. If Durham is hired then Neil will simply resume his current roles in the Johnstown school district and be totally free of any Westmont ties. Now if a wild card is hired as Johnstowns new head coach I'm not sure how things will play out.

We can all agree that Dave and Neil were great friends and that with Neil's ties to Johnstown he would have probably been his biggest lobbyist for the Trojan Job. Now if you lobby and push for a friend to get a school position and after 1 year he not only resigns but goes back to the school he just left from people would have to be pretty pissed off about that.
If I put my creditability on the line and pushed for an employee to receive a promotion or even just get hired, and they quit after 1 month of work, it makes me look bad and I would be pissed off. Also my superiors probably wouldn’t look at me the same way.
I believe Neil has to feel some sort of way about what Dave did. I wonder how much Neil knew about the whole situation. If I was the board members at Johnstown the credibility of anyone who pushed for Dave has to be shot. So if Neil and Dave are as close as everyone say they are than I see two things happening.
1. Neil probably has no credibility with the school board and Johnstown will probably go with Ryan Durham.
2. Johnstown doesn't care and they hire Neil, Ryan goes to Westmont with Dave and not only has Westmont got Dave back they probably steal the best young coach in the area as well.

Re: COACH ON DECK????
This is what I have heard from some people who are close to the Johnstown situation or just thinks they are.
Cobaugh: He is actually upset with Dave, not just because he left but the fashion he did it. 2nd Cobaugh has hostility towards Westmont and for Dave to go back their is almost a slap in the face. I also heard that Westmont was not to fawn of Cobaugh, and Cobaugh was upset that they never approached him once about the vacancy at Westmont. I also heard that Cobaugh really is not interested in being a head basketball coach. I believe that is probably true being that he has been an assistant and never has applied for a vacant head coaching position for basketball. I did hear a couple years back he applied for several head coaching football positions however.
Durham: Being Johnstown alum and coaching boy’s basketball at Johnstown for several years now feels entitlements. From what I hear he and Dave become really close. I did hear if he did not get the head position he will not stick around at Johnstown. I also heard that the only way he would stick around is if the hired coach: he feels is very knowledgeable about basketball. If he gets the head coaching job he will keep Cobaugh as his assistant. For a while I heard he was the front runner for the Westmont Job until Dave reapplied for the position and then he backed out to go after the Johnstown Job.
I believe it will be one of these two candidates. Johnstown has yet to even post it in the paper. Johnstown has a choice to make. You can go with Cobaugh a lifetime assistant who is a teacher in the school. You can go with Durham who is alum and seems to have a bright future in the coaching ranks.
If I had to bet money i would bet money on Cobaugh getting hired.
