Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
Oh. PSU fans know how to lose as well. At least they should. Seeing the writing on the wall is half the battle. And about mid way through the 2nd quarter last night, it was ever prevalent.
PSU has one of two options of ways to go the rest of the year. Either they'll let this loss crush them like the 2007 Nittany Lions did. Or they'll bounce back like Ohio State and Michigan seem to do when they have good teams who lose to teams they shouldn't.
The next few weeks will be very interesting as a PSU fan.

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
I don't think you can make that statement after last night. They should have lost that game and Iowa is a much better football team right now. Penn State just like last year failed at being able to put them away early. Three and out to start the game, score on the first drive from scrimmage, another 3 and out, and a drive that takes up the rest of the first quarter. Got a field goal out of it which was ok but then what the hell happened? They never tried to go for the knockout punch, AGAIN. All they needed to do to win that football game was score any amount between the start of the second quarter and the middle of the fourth quarter. Too many redzone turnovers, a 48 yard field left short, and special teams plays that dug us into a hole is the reason why PSU is now 3-1.ham55 wrote:Or they'll bounce back like Ohio State and Michigan seem to do when they have good teams who lose to teams they shouldn't.
This reminds me a few years back when Penn State lost a primetime game to open the Big Ten schedule at Michigan and traveled to Illinois the next week only to lay a bigger egg. This Illinois team has possibly the most talent in the league but I don't know what in hell Zook's staff is trying to do with it.
BTW, what ever happened to the Spread HD?

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
The only position on the field where Iowa has better individual players versus the PSU player at the same position is at defensive end.
Iowa plays a team game and are technically sound on defense. There has NEVER been any razzle from a Norm Parker defense. They are very, very sound defensively and they know to beat Penn State.
The problem with Iowa is that they will NOT win out and represent the Big Ten. They will pull an Iowa and lose 3 games. That has been the knock on Ferentz for years, unfortunately. When the staff prepares well, they win games. But they have weekly letdowns. Regardless, hopefully we will move to the Pac-10 to get the hell away from playing Iowa.

ABPK,
Michigan lost to APPALACHIAN STATE and, at the end of the year, they were one game vs. Ohio State away from winning the BigTen title! That's what I meant by that statement. I'm not saying they're anywhere near great, but if they think they are, then they can pull something like that off.
After last night, PSU shouldn't be ranked.

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
Oh sorry I took your statement the wrong way. I thought you were trying to say that Iowa wasn't the team that should have won that game and I think they were definitely the better of the two teams last night.
The season isn't over. Our defense only gave up 13 points last night and 10 of those were off turnovers that gave Iowa the ball inside the 40 yard line. Plus, you gotta remember that they are yet to be anything close to healthy. They will keep us in every game.

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
Penn State fell to 15th in the AP and 13th in the Coaches Poll. I'm really surprised that they only fell that far.

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
They should have fell to about 18, and so should have Ole Miss and USC.
I honestly think PSU is probably a top 11-13 team, but not after last night's performance. They have got to stop playing paddy-cake in these rankings. If you lose to an unranked team, you should drop to 20th.
What's Iowa ranked? 24th?

Re: Penn State vs. Iowa talk
The Big 10 is horrible. I actually thought Penn State was pretty good this year. Well, that all changed last night. hammy, how's PSU's strength of schedule? Oh wait, it doesn't matter because they lost. By the way, Missouri is ranked in the Coach's poll and that's the only one that really matters since it counts towards the BCS formula.
