Re: Bedford vs. CR II
I can believe Topper might be biased on the radio. I do have a hard time believing he would use bad language though. But this is a Bedford radio station. Wouldn't you assume the announcer's might be biased towards Bedford. I think if you listen to the stillers or PSU their announcers are biased aren't they? haha I'm suree if there was a fishertown radio station that broadcast games Southy would prob be the announcer with his lackey assistant coach and I know they would be biased. lol

Topper is one of the great athlectic voices your have in your area. I've personally known John Topper and his sons my entire life and they don't come any better. I'm sure there is alittle loyality with Bedford since he coached and taught there, but his professionalism on the radio is second to none.
I've heard him on the radio a lot and he is a class act guy. I know he called a few wrestlers and their coaches on the carpet because of the extreme unsportsmanslike behaviors a few of them displayed in the spirit of competition and I would of done the same.
All the way from Ohio, Keep up the great work John.

I agree he is a great man as is his son Jessie. I believe Jessie is the one we are talking about in this case. He typically does the football games.

I was listening to a game last fall with NB and Windber in Dist 5 A semi's at NB. Topper is talking that he was on the field for pregame and was trying to ask Coach DeMarco a question. He was asking about how good was this NB team and what concerns he had. DeMarco said well they are in the playoffs that must mean they are a good team and walks away from him. Man Topper was fired up in the booth about it and was going on about it. It was seriously funny. I have listened to him and think he is very knowledgeable about the game. I enjoy listening to him. He was really upset few weeks ago Bedford BG game about a no call for a BG player drilling the Bedford punter. He was livid.

I and my notorious asst. (SM) wouldn't last long on the radio.Lefteyelouie wrote:I can believe Topper might be biased on the radio. I do have a hard time believing he would use bad language though. Maybe he could be your sideline reporter.
Re: Bedford vs. CR II
But the sponsors are not just Bedford businesses. If they want to be biased towards Bedford, fine find enough financial support from businesses in the Bedford school district to broadcast the games. Over the years, I have heard many sponsors from each and every school district in the county. You don't hear many sponsors from local businesses in East Lansing during PSU games.Lefteyelouie wrote:I can believe Topper might be biased on the radio. Re: Bedford vs. CR II
I agree that Topper gets out of control at times with Bedford. There is nothing wrong with rooting for the team, but when on the radio, show a bit more restraint and be as non-biased as possible. I have seen this with the Gazette as well. With Sam Shuss as the sports editor, they seemed to be the same way, leaning towards Bedford in whatever sport. I have noticed that old SE Chris Wechtenhiser, who was from Somerset County, was not this way, and Ryan Spring, who took over earlier this year, is not like that either. I believe Ryan moved to Bedford County from another area, but am not sure.
