I know a guy from Dallas that is now living in New Orleans as a bartender and cleared 100k last year. How much did you make?

Small time news reporters from mid-to-lower tier newspapers don't make a whole lot...

How many times has bison blue tore down pitt or nd football players here on bleachercoaches? :shock:BisonBlue07 wrote:I happen to know a couple people who did NOT go to PSU and have degrees in hospitality management and Parks n Rec or Tourism management and they love their jobs and are doing just fine financially. Maybe they aren't the toughest degrees out there to get for the football players, but at least they got something out of their college experience other than playing football. I'm glad you're happy to tear down people for actually succeeding as students as well as football players.

Somebody's still sore from the comment I made about him being rejected by Joe Carpenter, I see.

I'd like to see where I attacked players shocker? Guarantee you won't find me bashing on individuals for their major choice or that they got a degree!

Re: Lions lead nation in academic all-americans
Here is a sampling I picked from Pitt's football media guide...Research it yourself if you're really interested...
I couldn't find a single major that was invented for jocks, like the ones at PSU...NO PARKS AND RECREATION, NO HOSPITALITY/TOURISM MANAGEMENT, NO TURF MANAGEMENT...
Administration of Justice (probably the most popular)
Communications/English (probably 2nd most popular)
Architectural Studies
Sociology
Graduate School of Public Relations
Business/Finance
Economics
History
Secondary Education-Math, English
Keep talking about PSU's "HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARDS" and how tough it is to get in...I guess Shady McCoy couldn't get into PSU because wasn't cut out to mow the grass at the Blue course, or clean toilets at the Autoport Motel or Canoe Creek State Park...

Re: Lions lead nation in academic all-americans
Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management:
This major helps provide preparation for management positions in hotels, restaurants, institutions, and other hospitality organizations. The program is designed to give the student a broad general education and a strong management and problem-solving orientation balanced with the requisite technical skills, all of them essential for career progression to upper-management positions in the hospitality professions. The program also helps students prepare for graduate study.
(College of Health and Human Development)
Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management
Through this program, students can prepare for supervisory and administrative positions in public or private agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. These include, but are not limited to, park systems, environmental centers, resorts, university intramural and sport club programs, event management businesses, recreation services for the armed forces, and therapeutic recreation programs in hospitals and health care facilities. Four options are offered: Commercial and Community Recreation Management, Golf Management, Outdoor Recreation, and Therapeutic Recreation.
(College of Health and Human Development)
Turfgrass Science
This major provides an integrated program of study that includes basic and applied sciences, business management courses, and an internship to help students prepare for careers in turfgrass management and related areas. By selecting supporting courses and electives, students can adapt the program to meet a variety of professional interests and educational needs.
(College of Agricultural Sciences)
Turfgrass Science is pretty odd I must say, but it is an agricultural school so it makes some sense. I don't see an issue with the other two at all. Sorry they do not all want to be doctors or "Administrators of Justice" (which Penn State offers as well).
In the end it's crazy to knock on anyone for graduating with ANY degree. I would rather have a degree in something as well as the football experience (if i was so blessed with the size/speed to play D1 ball) than to just have the football.

Re: Lions lead nation in academic all-americans
Bison, Thank you so much for doing the research and PROVING MY POINT that these are indeed majors specifically designed with football players and high graduation rates in mind. Read these descriptions. They're a JOKE.
Now...Let's hear from TAE about how tough the academic and admissions standards are at State Penn.
