Re: Dream Big 10 solution
And why is that? Because all Pitt's non-rev sports will get better? Because the university will get insanely more wealthy? Because you will be a part of what is the most prestigious all around conference? Because you will no longer need to send all your sports teams to Tampa? Because you will be guaranteed home games versus national powerhouse fanbases like Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State? Hey, it's fine with me if Pitt declines an invitation. We steal Rutgers and your conference stinks to the bottom of the ocean. Maybe your buddy Dirt can explain how ECU's academics are as good as Rutgers.
There is absolutely no comparison to the benefits of the BE versus those of the Big Ten.
Pitt has 3 routes.
1. Get lucky enough that the Big Ten will somehow forget all the benefits Rutgers brings, and accept an invitation.
2. Sit by and watch Rutgers leave and scramble for a Conference USA university (or a couple of them). Notice how C-USA gets zero respect. I wonder what will happen if the BE just keeps adding more of them?
3. Pray to God that the Baltimore and DC market, combined with the wonderful medical academics at Maryland, are enough to outweigh NYC and millions of Big Ten alums in the Rutgers area. Then, pray again that the ACC picks you over everyone else. Syracuse won't be a choice, because those idiots denied the ACC twice already.
Bottom line is this: Pitt's allegiance to the Big East will eventually be the death of Pitt athletics. Syracuse and WVU and Rutgers will never stay in the Big East if there is a Big Ten invitation. Pitt has about 10-12 months to get their propaganda machine up and running and start calling Delaney's house at all hours of the day begging.
Some of you guys get it and most of you do not. This is what Pitt needs, not the Big East. That conference is a sinking ship with zero luster. Will be extremely interesting to say the very least.

Really???Crimson09Crazy wrote:haha i think the Big East will go on just fine without Rutgers
Are they going to be a 7 team conference?
Unless Notre Dame joins the Big Ten it is going to be a Big East team. Pitt really needs to hope it can be them. Take your pride out of this and realize what it would mean academically to join the Big 10. I don't think you people realize how these universities are tied in academically. All of my professors are constantly working on research with other Big Ten professors. I have one professor that is constantly working with the University of Indiana. My I/O Psych class works with Michigan State and both Michigan State and Penn State have ranked in the top 4 nationally every year this decade in that field. Wisconsin and Penn State have the best meteorology programs and the nation and are working together to get better. For a leadership class of mine, we just analyzed studies performed by both Ohio State and Michigan (which they worked together on). At the library, the resources from other Big Ten schools are astronomical.
Take athletics out of this and look at how this would benefit the University of Pittsburgh, and ask yourself if you can honestly say that joining the Big Ten would not be beneficial.

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
Thats great, But really because your teams play football then your allowed to work together?? Universities can work with other universities regardless if football teams play other football teams. Sorry I dont think professors at Pitt are going to change curriculum because Michigan is on the football schedule.
Well we can get someone else. Sure it may be a C-USA team and people say the lack respect. But we take a C-USA team and give them a chance to play in a BCS conference and they can use that as a recruiting tool! Cincy and USF have flourished because they have that opportunity to join the Big East, adding UCF or somebody would just enable them to become a strong football team that would erase the loss of Rutgers, who would also be dumb for leaving.
And this whole academic nonsense....I saw ratings in which i saw 7 Big East Universities in the top 75 colleges in America and only 3 Big Ten? Where are your figures that the Big Ten is the Ivy League of BCS conferences?

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
The fact that the Big 10 is a great academic conference is not debatable. Nearly all the universities in the Big 10 rank in the top 100 nationally. You are only embarrassing yourself debating this with everyone. Of course, I'm sure your community college didn't conduct that much research so I understand.

University of Pittsburgh community college, your right.
But sorry I just dont see why Pitt playing Ohio State in football makes us a better academic school.

Re: Dream Big 10 solution
If you go to Pitt then why in god's name wouldn't you want them to join the Big Ten. Why would Northwestern begin research with Pitt whenever they have ties to Penn State through the Big Ten? If PSU was not in the Big Ten, Pitt fans would want to join in a heartbeat. Pitt is too academically advanced for the Big East. Here are some reasons why universities would work with other universities in their conference:
1. They are already tied together through their athletic conference affiliation.
2. The administration of the conferences regularly meet.
3. Conducting research with other universities in your conference will help build the academics of the entire conference and in turn attracts student athletes.
4. Universities in your athletic conference are probably comparable in size and finances so they create a natural match for equally sharing research.
