15 technicals ?
Re: 15 technicals ?
First of all this shouldnt have even happened. If the refs would have actually ran over and broke up the two kids on the ground who were after the loose ball. But instead they let them scruff it out on the ground and another player from CV came over and threw three punches to the face of the ferndale player on the ground. Then ferndales whole bench cleared and some fans came out to the floor but were then driven back into the stands by the cops there and the administration. The kids who got tossed were not even involved the player from ferndale who got tossed was on the bench at the time and the kid from valley was at the whole other end of the court! And both schools have looked over the security cameras and films taken from the game and suspended the correct players but the refs would still not change their ruling on the kids who did nothing. This all could have been easily avoidable.

I wasn't at the game but this is the rule regarding leaving the bench during an altercation. Anyone actually involved in the fight that is in the game will be ejected along with anyone who leaves the bench. Therefore if 1 player from each team that was actually in the game were fighting they will be ejected. All players who came off the bench will be ejected. That should leave a 4 on 4 to finish the game. All who are ejected will be charged with a flagrant technical foul and the shots will be determined by how many technicals will offset. For instance if CV had 5 players leave the bench and Ferndale had 7 players leave the bench you would assess 12 T's but only shoot 4 shots. CV would shoot 2 shots for each extra Technical committed by Ferndale. The same thing happened in the AAAA state finals about 5 years ago (the state didn't follow its own rules then either and only ejected the actual fighters).

playoffs? nice ferndale losing by like 40 and yet they complain they would have won with different officials

Agreed! My understanding of the rule since the state championship game is that any bench player entering the court is automatically ejected. Also, the head coach as well because it involves bench personnel. The head coach receives an indirect technical foul for technical fouls earned by bench players. Did all the bench players as well as the coach sit out of their next varsity contest? If not, Ferndale's coaches/ administration will most likely be hearing from the PIAA.
However, I heard that no CV players entered the court. 7 technicals were adminitered for the bench personnel and one each for the CV/Ferndale palyers.

It is ashame that some have refused to use the undeniable evidence on video to right two wrongs in this unfortunate event. There is one player from each school that should not have been ejected. Swallow the pride, admit a mistake, and make the correction for the sake of the two student athletes that were wrongly ejected.

Re: 15 technicals ?
The reality is every player that left the bench should have been ejected. My understanding is that invovled essentially all of the Ferndale players and two of the CV players. The ejections had nothing to do with players throwing punches. The rules are clear, you leave the bench and you're gone. Why this didn't happen I don't know. Perhaps the officials were trying to spare Ferndale having to forfiet it's next game. What is it they say about good intentions?
As far as watching tape of the incident...please. The offical who went and did this was flat out wrong and I have told him so. If we are going to start having officals take back calls after watching video tape what the heck is next? You missed a foul watch the tape....he traveled watch the tape...where does it end!!!
The more interesting info I am getting is that the "A' Team has been essenitaly classified as persona non grata in the Ferndale gym. Careful there....you may be able to control who officiates in your own gym but you can't control who you see on the road. And also...once again great lesson for your kids Ferndale.....you didn't do what we wanted you to do so you can't coach, officiate, teach here...insert whatever fits.
IMO if something was done incorrectly here it was that all of those who left the bench should have been ejected. Sending the message that the rules don't apply to everyone or they don't apply in all situations causes more trouble than enough. Maybe they should watch the tape and eject everyone who left the bench and the coach....would that make everyone happy.
And before anyone says the kids from Ferndale never left the bench, the coach himself remarked that he was "pulling then back onto the bench as fast as he could".

Costanza -- you are not an idiot. I was not referring to you.
Jacket -- you make some great points as always. How many coaches have there been at Ferndale on the girls side over the last 10 years? How many boys coaches during this period? When I was growing up this was a top program in he Johnstown area -- boys and girls. I really think it has degenerated because of a lack of numbers. What's your take?

Ditto...psycho wrote:DO not blame the officials you idiot. These guys have been around for a long time and have done many competitive games where kids actually had skills. maybe that was the problem with this game. That's what happens when you have so few kids that you CANNOT FIELD A COMPETITIVE TEAM. Emotions, grudges and feuds rear their ugly heads and can take over a game because one or both teams do not have the horses or skills to compete.
People have to have RESPONSIBILITY for their actions. I heard there were fans fighting as well -- parents??? Also, rumor has it that Cory Isenborg was out at half court throwin down in her bumble bee outfit....... ha ha..
Neither of these two schools should exist. It is TIME to put them both out of their pathetic uncompetitive misery. They have both become true embarrassments to the Johnstown area.
