Again, he should have gone into something other than education. At the least he should know that his profession is dictated by personal preferences in the hiring process, and there is no use complaining about it.

I knew coach Penna for a brief time while in college and he seemed like a real good guy. His father was also one of my coaches in the Ken Lantzey game. He also seemed like a good guy who I really enjoyed playing for during that week. I don't know all the politics of what's going on in J-town. I don't really care. But the decision is made. People need to get on board or you will just have a revolving door at head coach. That doesn't do anybody any good. especially the kids.

I know for a fact the Penna Jr. was a great hire at Johnstown. The kids really like him as a coach and not just that he is a student of the game. He works on his craft and that's a trait all good coaches have. This is a guy with great upside; he will get better and better as the years go and so will the program under his guidance. I wish Penna Jr. the best of luck and hope he has much success for many years down the road.

Hey all you piss ants who like to see others fail -- how bout we do something totally unnatural for the Johnstown area -- How bout we all wish and hope for the success of this fine young coach and the Trojan program instead of wishing for his failure so some of us can fullfill some sick primordial urge to give condolences. Alot of the sick losers on this board did the same thing with Coach Cobaugh last year -- and look what he has done with the hoops program. He shut up alot of the mentally disturbed jealous losers in the area. I sincerely hope that Tony Penna Jr -- another crazy a$$ Ferndale boy -- does the same.

I too wish Tony good fortune at Johnstown. I just hope the powers that be allow him to coach. This has not been the practice in the past. For goodness sakes, when a school board member makes a statement on the sidelines about the coach (Maribito) and then low and behold he's gone..........well Johnstown faithful, that is not how a successful program operates. Until Johnstown eliminates all their "micromanagers" we'll continue to see coaching changes evey few years.
Again, believing Tony will do a fine job, what in the world do you think will happen if Johnstown loses to McCort and Richland a few years in a row??? Under Johnstown current hiring/firing (failure to renew contract) system, Tony could be the best guy in the world, the micromanagers will demand a change....

how does ferndale think about this situation? they created a job for him and let him come back to his alma mater to coach. i read in the trib dem about how they got kids to come out and got their numbers up, started the parades again,here i don't know how effective this is or the community pride involved butgood to see the community get involved again and then he tells the school and his coaching staff to do not believe what you hear.on this bleachercoaches.he mentioned this website.a couple of days later he is the coach at jtownand he says this is the only job iwould leave for.this is hs football. sounds like insert name from college fball coaches. where is the loyalty anymore?

Tony Jr. is not a Ferndale Alum...he is a votech alum. That being said his parents are great Ferndale people. Things get complicated when you start growing up and having other people depend on you. I imagine Tony did what was best for his family which is what I would expect him to do. Funny, weren't we having this same conversation last year about another local coach changing teams?

I feel bad for the kids from Ferndale who have had to endure a plethora of coaching changes in a number of sports over the past few years. Old and new habits are sometimes hard to break. My hope is that Ferndale gets some coaches that stay around for a while but in order to do that you have to create an environment that embraces that concept. Guess we will see.

There is no loyalty anymore. I think the problem is these high school coaches think they are professional or college coaches jumping from head job to head job. Let me tell you guys something if you are not coaching college football as in assistant or whatever else by the age of 30 chances are you will never coach college or professional football. Coaching is your hobby not your full time job. When will these coaches think family first. If they won't even put their family before themselves why do you think they will do so for the kids at your school.

What they need to do is start being loyal to schools that are loyal to them. Not to down talk on Johnstown but look at how many coaches they have had over the last 10 years. You are looking at a program that is not loyal to their coaches either. What you now have is coaches not loyal to their alma mater or programs that gave them a chance to coach in a head coaching capacity, going to a school that is not loyal to their coaches at all. All I'm going to say is 4 years from now when Johnstown is looking to go another direction again you have revert back to the old saying, be carful what you wish for.
