Garrett Lucas / Josh Chumrik in Top 20 in Central Pa.

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

Phil Grosz is the senior recruiting analyst for Blue and White Illustrated, a Penn State section of Rivals.com. Two local yokels have made his list for Central Pennsylvania, which is a great honor.

Garrett Lucas (Westmont) is listed at 6'4" 292 and running a 5.2 40 yard dash. I have heard very mixed reviews of Lucas, and I am suprised Penn State has shown some interest.

Josh Churmik (Carroll) is listed at 6'1" 205 w/ a 4.6 40. Penn State is reported to also have shown some interest here. I cannot imagine he will not be moved to Safety, because there ar enot many (if any) Division 1 colleges that will start a 205 lb. linebacker. I really have not heard anything good or bad about Chumrik.

Good luck to both of them. Here's the rest of the Top 20 for Central Pa.

Congrats to these players, it's great for them and our area to get some recognition. I've seen Lucas play a couple times, and he needs to have huge spring in the combines to get the DI offers. He reminds of former Johnstown OL Istanich. To be honest, I have never heard of the Chumrik kid. Where did he play on offense? I watched the BC/FH game and don't recall him making any big plays. The Perish kid seemed to be the best player on BC in that game.

He played fullback on offense. I don't think the 4.6 time is right. He is no where near that fast. When I watched him he seemed a lot slower then that. But then again quickness and speed can be very different sometimes.

In my experience watching highlight tapes and looking at the reported 40 times... Those 40 times are all basically ridiculous. It all depends when and where these times where recorded, and how they were recorded.

The best way to evaluate it is to actually see the time yourself or else watch the kid's film and make the determination with how fast he looks.

It is going to be very, very hard for Chumrik or Lucas to get a written offer to Pitt or Penn State this season. I'm not sure what Pitt's scholly outlook looks like for 2011, but PSU will have a tight class with maybe only 15-16 available scholarships. They will not take fliers on kids who might not play great competition each week. My advice to Lucas (and Chumrik) is to REALLY hit the camp circuits this summer and try to get his college paid for someplace.
