I thought North Star was AA.

According to the PIAA site, Somerset,Bedford and Ridge are the only 3 District 5 AA schools.

Nah, North Star is single A this year. There won't be a D5 AA champ this year.

Yes, that predictor is a little out of date.

Not only is North Star not AA, but Districts 5 and 6 are combined into one playoff tournament for AA for the next two years. Also, Districts 6 and 9 are combined into one playoff for AAA. There is a difference in area AAAA as well. Districts 6, 9, and 10 will combine for one playoff and then play the District 8 AAAA winner. In the last two years, District 8 was seeded along with Districts 6, 9, and 10 into the same playoff tournament.

In AAA, that will be seven teams - Bellefonte, Johnstown, Indian Valley from 6 and Bradford, Clearfield, Punxsutawney, and St. Mary's from 9. Hollidaysburg(6) is playing in the WPIAL and is only elgible for their playoffs.

I think the only District 6, 9, and 10 AAAA teams this year will be State College and Central Mountain in 6, DuBois in 9 and Strong Vincent in 10. Altoona (6) and McDowell(10) will also be playing WPIAL schedules and only be eligible for the WPIAL playoffs, I am pretty sure.

Also, in this era of pretty open (diluted) playoffs, just 8 of 19 Class AA District 5 and 6 teams making the playoffs is a pretty tough cut. It will definitely be possible for teams with winning records to miss the playoffs.

Compare this to District 6-A, where up to 16 of 23 Class A teams can make the playoffs and District 5-A, where 6 to 8 teams make the playoffs out of ten.

And in those AAA and AAAA groupings, I bet the playoffs will be open to all.

I like that the AA bracket only takes 8, makes you have to actually work to get into the playoffs. It sucks that I know Mount Union has almost no chance of getting into the playoffs, but I'd rather have that than a team with a 3-6 record make the playoffs.

District 6 AA is by far the best to watch in our area, I hate that McCort isn't in it. Forest Hills and Tyrone are two traditional powers. Central Cambria and Philipsburg are consistent. And Richland and Central have emerged to be pretty good teams. Its a shame McCort isn't playing against those teams. Bellwood is the only team we even worry about now days.
