I'm sure most if not all former football players on here will agree that adjusting to a Saturday game (away game mind you) is a tough accomplishment. I don't think Portage will be "that bad" for a while. Like Windber they have a strong tradition of winning and have a well coached team every year. I bet if Rockwood would have traveled to Portage on Friday the makeup of the game would have been much different.

It doesn't always happen but more often than not you are sluggish in a Saturday game. If the teams are matched up pretty well the home team has the edge. They know the Saturday game routine. They know how it works. They also don't have to travel, just show up like any other home game.

And I think it also has to do with Saturday games being day games. Day game routine is much different than a night game routine. That has a lot to do with your mindset on the field. You are an accomplished athlete, you know this.

Furthermore, college games can be night or day, but your day is scheduled out and the hours leading up to the game are always the same. High school is a bit more relaxed when it comes to this.
It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

You do have good points. That's just what I was taught growing up. Do you think though that this does play a part in area football players playing college ball and not being very successful? Should all teams be mandated to have lights?

I think that does play a part in it along with everything else that makes college football not high school football. Hats off to the ones who are able to make the adjustment and excel at it.

As for the lights...that's anybody's guess. Day games (as much as I hated them) mix it up and keep it interesting. If nothing else just to let them (football and soccer players) play under the lights in front of a home crowd. There's something magical about that.

that was my point. I played many moons ago and we had the same problem with sat games most teams just arent use to the routine, most players and former players will tell you that your more apt to have a bad game on a saturday day game then a night game. not everyone and not everytime but it does happen, i think i recall berlin going to bv last year and losing a game they should have won, i was just putting my thoughts on saturday games and how they affect the game when bb told me it was the coaches fault for letting this happen. not sure if bb ever played football or played a saturday game but if he did he would understand it.

Some schools just cannot afford lights and with that there will always be sat day games and your right had rockwood gone to portage friday night i do believe the outcome would have been different
