Refereeing???
Re: Refereeing???
okay, scenerio, there is a penalty kick and the kicker of the penalty hits the ball, the keeper deflects the ball away from the goal with his own 2 hands, not the crossbar or uprights of the goal, with his own physical hands, the kicker then plays the rebound and proceeds to score a goal. Question for you, is it a goal????
This is to see if anyone is as knowledgable about the game of soccer as the referees from the Hyndman/NB game on Monday afternoon at Hyndman.

Re: Refereeing???
It would still be a goal right? After the ball is kicked it is in play and can be shot back if missed.
Re: Refereeing???
Thats correct because the kicker can play it again as soon as it is touched by another player, including the keeper, it is definitely a goal. If it hits the crossbar or any other part of the goal, and bounces back, the kicker cannot touch it until it is touched by another player.
This was exactly what happend tonight in this game, a NB kicker took the PK and upon the kick, the keeper deflected it right back to the kicker who then scored a goal from this rebound. The referee on duty, yet again not knowing the rules of the game, disallowed the goal calling it a double touch and awarded Hyndman an indirect free kick.
This is really sad to know that yet again there was a referee on the field who does not know the rules of the game. How do you get refs that know the game on the field instead of these people who do not. Yea I know its easy to sit back and name the negatives, but after something like that, how can you remember any good. I mean they did call the game okay, which might be a stretch, but making a bad call or 2 or being inconsistant is acceptable, but not knowing the rules, really shouldnt be.

Re: Refereeing???
i can tell you a few things about the situation:
the ref knew right afterwards that he made a questionable call (how do i know? he texted me right afterwards). his explanation to me was the way he read the rule book, it says the ball must be touched by "another player" before the kicker can touch it again. His explanation was that the way he read it, when it says "another player" he though it meant another player other than the two involved in the PK. that ref is a a first year ref, and i know it doesn't help much now, but after i let him know he was wrong, he felt awful. and i guarantee he'll never make that mistake again.

Re: Refereeing???
Not to dwell on this but....
the way you are explaining the official's thoughts that if the goalie was only able to get a hand on the ball and make a save that he would not be able to pick the ball up quick to complete the save.....someone other than the 2 invovled had to touch it next.
That call would be a tough one to swallow. I know in athletics a lot of calls/rules are open to judgement but I would not have guessed this to be one of them
the only reason why we are even talking about this is because of the outcome of the game. Had nbc won or lost by 5.. no one would even care.

Re: Refereeing???
my question is, there was another ref, what was stopping him from coming over and correcting the situation?

Re: Refereeing???
I have been at games where the refs have conferred and chnged a call to the correct call. The older ref should have taken a leadership role and changed the call but I heard he called a questionable handball in the box so he must not have had a good game either. That being said, there have been a ton a strange calls or no calls this year from D5 and D6 refs, but it is tough to improve them when you cant even get enough to cover all of the games in the area.

Re: Refereeing???
The B.C. vs F.H. game was absolutely terrible refereeing. A F.H. player ran into a defender and fell and got a p.k. There were 3 more p.k.'s in that same half. Another F.H. player had the ball taken off of him and a B.C. player was behind him and the F.H. player grabbed the B.C. player and threw him to the ground while he was playing the ball. The F.H. player got booked and so did the B.C. player playing the ball for some reason.
