What Is Wrong With District 5???
Re: What Is Wrong With District 5???
I know Waltman hasn't been there 20 years. I think he took over in 2000, and Brian Koontz was there for around 10 years I would say. That is pretty stable for a program IMO.

I am a little surprised if they are actually are getting rid of Waltman.I don't think they had too bad a run in the years he was there.I am not totally up to date on everett football but from reading the gazette I thought they had some good years with him.Oh well I guess you never know what things are going on internally at schools.

I guess its kind of a little behind doors type on thing...Waltman wasnt aware of what was going on and they fired him and the entire staff.
Re: What Is Wrong With District 5???
Whatever you say guys... Somerset is still the best facility in D5. But let's get something straight - D6 isn't backwards, it is crooked. D5 is definitely looked at as backwards, a bunch of small rural schools with below average facilities. So if your own schools are good enough for championship games, then why use UPJ for hoops??? It isn't even in District 5. District 6 uses the best large gyms available for its playoffs (Richland, CC, West Side, Holidaysburg), which I guess is why the have neutral courts for basketball, but home fields for football.
Look, I was at the D5 Championship Game at Bedford between Berlin and NBC a few years ago, and the attendance was considerably less than a sellout. The field was pretty muddy even though it wasn't raining. I am willing to bet that'll be the same deal tonite. The way I see it, D5 could have done something different for a change and had an event like D6's games at Mansion Park. There are a ton of fans from Johnstown who go to Mansion Park just to be there. However, no one from the Johnstown or Somerset areas will go to Bedford to watch this game. However, there could have been a considerable amount of additional fans if it were at the Somerset field. Would Bedford county fans travel to Somerset to see it? Probbaly not. But then again, they won't go see it even when it is in Bedford.

I agree, there would be a bigger turnout if it was at Somerset. Oh well, not gonna make money when you have a game that far away whenever 6-9 D5 teams are located in Somerset County. It makes no sense at all why they have it in Bedford and like you said have basketball at UPJ. Look at track, at N.Bedford every year because it is the best facility for the event. Why not football???
Just a thought peoples:
Since everything is about money, do you think D5 would ever consider a 3rd place game on a Saturday night? Yeah the turnout wouldn't be great, but still would bring in a profit. Some thoughts?

I just figured since everything is about money, why wouldn't they do something like this?
Re: What Is Wrong With District 5???
I bet the game will have a huge crowd tonight.
I was told that there are already blankets laid out on several parts of the bleachers
You guys are crazy thinking people go just to see Mansion Park. Hollidaysburg is much nicer. Mansion Park is so big and you are so far from the field. For years, it was a slab of cement with green on it and not much else. Now it is better. Their facilities still stink though. People tonight who have no rooting affiliation for any teams left and just like football will probably travel to Tyrone to check out that game. When I go to see a game, I go to see football. I don't go to see how nice the bleachers are. If tonight's game was at Somerset it would be a poor turnout. We are all stating opinions though so nobody wins. Everyone can say what they want to say and there is nothing to prove any of it :!: Once again, I'll say that Bedford is jam packed by 6:45. Both of these teams travel well and it is right around 25 minutes NBC's fans to get there and 40 minutes for the North Star fans.
