PIAA moving to change fall sports start date
Board of Directors voted (18-13) on a first reading basis to start fall sports one week earlier (practices and games) in a move that is predicated on football and ending football one week earlier.
While I agree that football goes too long, at least it's only affecting a minimal amount of schools in December as opposed to this move which affect every school in the state and takes another week from student/athletes in the summer. Just my opinion. This will have to pass two more reading to become the law.

Actually, they should change Labor Day back to September 1st, no matter WHAT day of the week it is. Then, play the first football game on whichever Friday is the closest to Labor Day.

I agree with HR. If the PIAA wants to shorten the football season then go to 6 classes and cut down on the number of rounds in the playoffs.

This one of those rare years when the championships are real late into December. The problem was the late date of Labor Day. The rule was that a team could not play more than one game before Labor Day. It didn't seem right for a team to possibly play 2 games before the start of school. The answer: have everyone play their 1st game on the last full weekend of August. This would guarantee the championships be around the second weekend in December.

The only drawback to that that I see, is you still have to deal with Pa. weather's unpredictability, and the overlapping of fall/ winter sports. Everyone wants their share, either money, or time, and there just isn't enough of either to go around. I agree though, make Sept. 1 the OFFICIAL LABOR DAY, regardless of anything else. Why isn't it, anyway? Did -a- dead president say so? Like other things political have NEVER been changed!
It ain't over until it's over.

Sounds to me like you believe the president has more power than he really does. I'll bet you even think a certain specific president had the power to send the troops to Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanastan. Surprise, it was Congress who fell for that bucket of crap and sent our soldiers there.Manfred wrote:Why isn't it, anyway? Did -a- dead president say so? Actually, not too many years ago all our holidays were on specific dates. It was the unions and mostly everyone else who contacted Congress saying that days off in the middle of a work week were not optimizing their day off, that they would be able to go on long long distance trips, go camping and do so much more if holidays were observed in a string of days off.....like putting them on the end of weekends off. That's why it happened.
