Richland solution

Post by psycho »

Here's an easy solution to the Richland problem and the general uncompetitive issues that plague the area.

First CONOLIDATE Richland with Forest Hills, part of Windber and Part of Portage. This school should graduate around 350
Second CONSOLIDATE Shade with part of Windber, Con Twp and Shanksville. this school should graduate around 280
Third, CONSOLIDATE JHS, Westmont, CV and Ferndale. This school should graduate about 400.
Fourth, CONSOLIDATE Blacklick, part of Portage and Penn Cambria with Central Cambria. This school should graduate around 380.
Fifth, CONSOLIDATE Northern Cambria and Cambria Heights and whatever else is up there. This school will graduate around 280.
North Star is absorbed by Somerset and will graduate around 300.

Put them all in a league with BG, Carroll and McCort -- 8 team league. Let them play 1-2 non conf games.

Now with larger enrollments you will have enough kids for a real football team and it will be competitive (if parents will allow it to be). Soccer players can play soccer. Band kids can march in the band at halftime. Services will be consolidated, costs will be cut by 30% and critical mass will ensure that services are better. COMPETITION will be reinstituted. Kids who want to compete will thrive and develop both academically and athletically.

Downside to this is that no longer will every kid be on the homecoming court or in the school play or start on every sports team. Some team mascots will be extinguished, sports shrines dismantled and school history, culture and tradition mothballed. There will be enough kids that there will actually be tryouts again and kids will get cut and feel bad about themselves. And tragically, not everyone will get a trophy.

try this for simpler solution: whining parent's child can go to BM and hope to get the carries he so richly deserves and finish out his wrestling carrier at Portage. much easier to move one whining family than disrupt the entire Richland program.

you can't consolidate school districts from two different countys.. for example windber is somerset county and richland is cambria.. good idea but will never happen.

You can consolidate across county lines.

Here are two things that need to happen ASAP

1. Ferndale- consolidated with Johnstown (Dale, Lorain, Middle Taylor) and Westmont (Brownstown, Ferndale).

2. Conemaugh Valley- consolidated with Johnstown (East Conemaugh, lower part of Frankstown Rd), Central Cambria (East Taylor), Richland (upper part of Frankstown Road around airport).

The districts that absorb these kids would be able to do so with minimal headaches because of the small numbers.

Nonsense. Scalp Level Borough is in Cambria County. Scalp Level Borough is part of the Windber School District.

I don't see why consolidation is an issue in this matter.

I don't think any of the schools currently have the facilities to accomodate the additional students.
