They have their own league, and openly recruit.

Thorpe is a junior and will be staying at Shaler Area HS this season. Geno had a great off season and already has offers from high majors Pitt, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Kansas State, Penn State, and Wisconsin. Thorpe is very talented, long, and has an exceptionally quick first step.

D6 fans can catch Shaler Area in action at Altoona on Friday January 13, 2012 and at State College Saturday January 14, 2012.

Shaler returns a solid lineup featuring Thorpe (18ppg), who at 6'3" 175 will move to the point, 6'4" 245 power forward PSU football recruit JP Holtz (9ppg, 10rpg), 6'1" combo guard and starter from last season Zack Taylor (9ppg), and 6'2" guard Ryan Mincher (One of the WPIAL's best 3 sport athletes, headed to UPenn of the Ivy to play baseball). Shaler also returns 3 other players who scored in double digits in varsity games last season. The Titans will go 8-9 deep and although they don't have a true "post player" (other than Holtz), they will play big because they will be very athletic.

It will be difficult for Shaler to match their 22-2 record of a season ago, but they will be very competitive in this part of the state as AAAA boys' basketball goes.
