WPAC Week 6
WPAC Week 6
North Star (5-0) at Rockwood (2-3)
The Cougars rank 3rd in the WestPac in rushing! They are proving to be a challenge to prepare for with the dangerous air attack and now a respectable run game. Every week the Cougars keep rolling and keep winning. This team is building a lot of momentum. I hope they stay hungry for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs. The WestPac crown is theirs to lose.
The Rockets beat the Blue Jays last week in a mud fest where the difference was the passing game. Rockwood was able to get some important yards through the air where as the Blue Jays had under 30 yards passing. Rockwood is now (2-0) since switching to a more "downhill" approach but they are going to need the kitchen sink this week. The Rockets are one of the few teams that runs a 4-4 defensive. They will need more than one safety to stop the North Star passing attack but taking men out of the box has opened the running game for the Cougars.
Cougars - 45
Rockets - 14
Conemaugh Township (4-1) vs Portage (3-2)
Township is coming off a tough toss to Ridge. Ridge was able to keep the Indians off balance on offense and the Indians couldn't put the ball in the endzone.
I picked Portage last week (I was thinking they would play like Portage teams of the past) but I was wrong. This Portage team is very inconsistent. I call them inconsistent only because I'm afraid to say they aren't as good as I think they are.
Indians - 35
Mustangs- 14
Windber (4-1) vs. Ferndale (0-5)
I doubted the Ramblers and they threw it in my face. That's okay...They proved the injury to Pipon didn't hurt them as bad as I thought. They did prove however that Bryan is a stud. He has great vision and reads the flow of the defense well. Last week he reached 1,000 + rushing yards. This week he will get closer to 1,500.
The Jackets lost a tough one to Blacklick last week 8-0. As I continue to say... I feel for this Ferndale team because they do have some athletes. They are winless entering the toughest part of their schedule...not good news for the Jackets.
I hope Windber calls off the dawgs in this one...
Windber - 48
Yellow Jackets - 13
Berlin (3-2) at Meyersdale (3-2)
Berlin gets the train back on track after a "W" over Shade where they racked up over 250+ yards rushing. They also got 2 TDs through the air. This game is HUGE for the Mountaineers who will be pushing to end in the top three this season. I think Berlin's running game will make the difference in this game. Berlin and Meyersdale both have balanced offenses. I think the power upfront will swing Berlins way.
Since the game is at Meyersdale it could be interesting because the Raiders always play tough at home but I think Berlin will be able to overcome the disadvantage and come away with a "W."
Meyersdale is coming off a loss to North Star.
Mountaineers - 28
Red Raiders - 18
Conemaugh Valley (1-4) at Blacklick Valley (1-4)
I finally pick the Jays and the lose another close one! The last three weeks- 14-13 W * 13-12 L * 14-12 L* What a three week stretch! It seems the new coaching staff is making strides but the "W's" are not falling their way. Offensively the Jays can't seem to sustain drives when it counts. I am pleased that after calling out the coaching staff last week that Uncapher had 25+ touches (not that I had anything to do with that). He had both scores for the Blue Jays running them in from outside the 20.
Blacklick squeaked by Ferndale last week in a mess of a game. As Prince reported, over 12 fumbles or something like that. Sheesley is the real deal and could really benefit from some help. I think he will have a big game if they can get him outside on this Blue Jay defense.
Vikings - 21
Blue Jays - 13
Shade travels to Saltsburg. I will take Medva and the Panthers by 14.
