Bedford 50 Claysburg 24

Post by odoyelrules »

The match results went somewhat as I expected - the match started at 285 which Claysburg won as well as their 4 state ranked wrestlers, Bedford won the other 9 weights with lots of falls. I was surprised a little with 2 of coach Marko's decisions though:

1) @ 138 I thought that Bedford had to send their wrestler out 1st, instead coach Marko sent Dively out (I think Dively was actually the 1st wrestler to step foot on the mat) and as a result faced a weaker Bedford opponent, while coach Creps bumped his regular 138 up to 145 where he got a quick fall, 6 team points each way.

2) @ 182 the outcome of the match was already essentially decided. I was hopeful that Ickes would be bumped up to face Brett, giving both state ranked wrestlers a competitive match. Instead Ickes earned a major decision, Brett got a quick fall @ 195 and none of the 10 state ranked wrestlers faced another ranked opponent.

"fan" answered my qs on the D6 board:

Follow up.... first off came away from that match very impressed with bedford and whoever does there weight training deserves a raise. At. 138 CK had to send out first which is why dively was sent out. The move would have been made at 132 to put weyandt in against grimes and bump dodson and dively both up but because of an injury suffered in the NBC match on Thursday. Weyandt knew before he left practice on Friday that he was not wrestling and was just weighed in as decoy. As far as 182 being down by that many points and the only backup is a first year wrestler with only one varsity match it made no sense to bump especially considering the serious injury that ickes suffered last year at the richkand duals. Ickes would have bumped without question if the team needed it but you have to pick your battles wisely and this one just wasn't necessary. Again hats off to bedford.

They will prob. lose the last match of the regular season against Greater Latrobe. They are a very good AAA team. Also have Somerset which can't be overlooked in the regular season.
