Re: Moldo will love this one: Great Quotes
Hope I get this right. Back in the late 70's, before cable, you didn't have 30 college football games on TV every Saturday. There were only a few TV stations, which showed about two games every Saturday; one probably at 1PM, and one around 4PM. Anyhow, Pitt at that time was coached by Jackie Sherrill. I think Pitt was playing Penn State at Beaver Stadium in the season finale, when Sherrill sent Fast Freddie Jacobs out onto the field for the coin toss. Sherril gave him specific instructions that if he won the toss, Pitt was to receive, but if the coin toss was lost and PSU decided to receive, Pitt would take the wind. Well, in front of a national TV audience (as the Pitt-Penn State game was about as big as it got in those days), Pitt won the toss and Freddie said "We want to receive and take the wind". Well. the ref said that he could either take the ball or the wind. Freddie insisted that Pitt wanted the ball and the wind. Well, in front of millions of football fans, the ref, after about 5 minutes, finally talked some sense into the PITT running back and Pitt elected to receive. PSU then took the wind.
