Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
Re: Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
Well it won't be Monessen. Congrats to Clairton on being everything they are as a football program.

Thx man... its been a heck of a ride.rainmaker wrote:Well it won't be Monessen. Congrats to Clairton on being everything they are as a football program.
Now that the toughest stretch of the regular season is over, I doubt either Serra or Imani has that much of a shot. Imani has the best shot of the 2, but Imani isn't deep enough to play w/ the Bears yet. Imani is a program to watch out for in the coming years. Can't wait to see what they produce by the time they're playoff eligible.
Re: Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
I would think Imani is a shoe in for the Eastern when they get playoff eligible. I wonder if WPIAL would have even put them in the BH had they been playoff eligible in the first place. Who knows what they are thinking obviously.
Re: Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
Yea, I also anticipate Imani moving to the Eastern in 14. I believe that AR & WS are part of the Armstrong County merger and may be playing their last years as HS programs, or each will be gaining enrollment due to the district shifts over there and will be 2A anyways. And you never know if a school like Laurel could be bouncing up to 2A so a school like Avonworth or Northgate could replace them from the Eastern plus Vincentian will be in the Big 7 by then. Hopefully the next realignment there is a better balance between the conference even if that means a total makeover between the Eastern/Blackhills/TCS.
A TCS & Blackhills that kinda looks like this wouldn't be that bad for all parties:
TCS(Mon Valley or MonYough):
Clairton
Monessen
Serra
Frazier
Geibel
California
Beth Center
Bentworth
Brentwood
Blackhills:
Bishop Canevin
Carlynton
Char Houston
Fort Cherry
Avella
J. Morgan
Mapletown
Carmichaels
Eastern:
Imani
Wilkensburg
Leechburg
Riverview
Springdale
Northgate?
North Catholic?(could be 2A or even 3A by next cycle due to new school opening)
Avonworth?
AR?
WS?

Re: Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
I think a lot of people could live with this. Another problem I thought of with the current setup is your asking teams like Canevin to play Monesson, Clairton, and Brentwood three weeks in a row. Those kids are very beat up right now. So in the interest of protecting Avella and Bentworth you are also physically beating up the other schools by asking them to play ridiculous schedules. Its better for everyone if you spread it around and only have to get up for a couple big games, especially considering Class A's limited numbers. Seems like they were trying to be conscious of this but went about it in a very stupid way IMO.
Re: Best shot at stopping Clairton's streak?
I totally agree. And don't forget about Canevin starting out w/ Imani & Char Houston back to back weeks to start the season. More than half of everyone's schedules are against teams that should be playing in the post season in a different alignment. Look at California(for example), they're more than likely a playoff team if they played in the TCS this year.
If the WPIAL/PIAA was really worried about protecting schools like Avella & Bentworth they'd create a 5th Class or at the worst a Class 1B.

When you really think about it, the Blackhills is essentially a 2A Conference at the 1A level in terms of competition.
