Fact of the matter is PAHS football is a joke when it comes to fan support. A North Hills-North Allegheny game should easily draw 25K, if not more. Same with Woody High and Gateway.
People, just walk into your local bar/pub and ask the people, how does Monessen, Ringold, Fort Cherry, Canon Mac, Seneca Valley, Springdale look next year and I'll place money on this response "I don't know" or "I don't care". This is part of the reason why PA HS Ball isn't as good as it used to be. Local schools aren't producing the revenue to keep the great coach's home. And if the communities don't care, they're not going to push their kids. Speaking of Canon Mac and Ringold, these 2 schools should be power houses. Both have a nice blend of athletes, skill, and size.
A school like Clairton produced 3 D1A prospects this year and about 1 the past few years, schools with athletes like Woody High, Gateway, McKeesport, and City League schools should be producing 6 at least a year. Yes this area has produced high end talent like Pryor, Shell, Boyd, and Foster. But there aren't many 2nd and 3rd tier recruits.

Animus how many Pittsburgh schools compare in class size to a school from Dallas? Also Dallas state championship games are at a huge field. Put state championship games in a larger and you may get closer to 30-40k at them. I guarenntee some schools in Texas have around. 1000 kids per grade.

NA 2,078 Total Students
Woodland Hills 873 Total Students
Butler 1,968 Total Students
Seneca Valley 1891 Total Students
Lamar 3,255 Total Students (2010-2011)-Texas
NA, Seneca Valley, and Butler are the WPIAL's largest schools and could push 6A if PA went to 6 Class's. I'm not asking for WPIAL Title games to be 30K. All I'm asking for is 15-25K. This year's title game had no more than 6K. Which was barely more than the Class A game.

Simple answer. Game is played too late. Not many casual fans want to sit for a football game in mid December to watch kids they don't know. If the season was cut by two weeks more fans like me would go. No way am I making a trip to Hershey in mid-December when there could be a blizzard at ant time. Season too long.

deepcreek that's a fair point. I simply don't understand why the PIAA and the individual Districts can't cut the season by 2 weeks by 1" cutting the playoff field in half, and 2: a 9 week season statewide. Going even further simply start the season 1 week earlier. Just by those 3 simple steps, you end the season 3 weeks earlier than you do now.
But to break down my point, Clairton-Monessen was the largest crowd I've seen all season. The crowd was raucous, live, and enthusiastic. The overflow on each side was out of this world. I really don't know how many people Monessen's stadium holds but it was larger than your average 3A game here for sure. Clairton-Port Allegany filled up Deer Lakes and had over flow in a 2A stadium. For whatever reason you don't see the same enthusiasm at 4A games. Its really a handful of your traditional schools like Aliquippa, Clairton, Monessen, and Jeannette that provides your best atmosphere. Some say consolidation will help up the talent pool and atmosphere. But closing down the schools with as much tradition as any school in the nation will do more harm than good from a football perspective.
I do think going to 6 Class's would be a great idea. NA vs Coatesville would've been the 6A Title Game. Woody High vs ECP would've been the Western Final. 3A would've been down to Central Valley, West Mifflin, or Aliquippa(if they chose to play up) in Hershey against Wyomissing or a current small 3A school. 2A would've been Washington, Jeannette, Sto Rox or Clairton(if they chose to play up) against Dunmore and 1A would've been maybe Neshannock, Port Allegany, or Monessen vs I don't know in Hershey. Most of your 1A powers out East are larger 1A schools. Dunmore, Riverside, Old Forge, and SCA would most likely be 2A schools. I don't know about BA, BM, and others. I'd guess that Steel High would be 1A but they'd opt to play up.

On another note; if we're looking for a potential National Power from PA, Coatesville has that potential. They have a tremendous coaching staff, and a butt load of athletes at their disposal. Whatever they're doing, schools like Penn Hills an McKeesport needs to follow suit.

The biggest crowd was 6,047 for the Class AAAA game. The Class AA final drew 5,530, the A final 3,851 and the AAA final 3,448.

those are pretty pathetic numbers for the wpial championships. i've been to district 6 class regular season class A games that were standing room only that were announced at over 4000 in attendance.
