J-town boys win at somerset

Post by sppawfan »

J-town beat somerset 69-60 at somerset tonight in a well played game. They should meet for a 3rd time in the playoffs and somerset will have their big guy mostoller and good freshman guard barnes back for the playoffs. Wilkow hurts being out also as he was a big guy for them and had 16 rebounds the 1st game at j-town. Flyte is really playing good ball for somerset now and they are playing better defense and getting some nice bench play having those guys mentioned above out with injuries. Congrats to j-town on a big win to stay ahead in the lhc section they are in.

It looks as though Johnstown can beat Somerset without "Johnstown refs"

Both sections of the LHAC are very competitive this year. Section II still has a big battle between Johnstown and McCort to close out the year.

But Johnstown really stepped up this year, and proved a lot of people wrong. I never saw Johnstown taking the big step back some thought they would. Roshon Fields really improved, and became one of the best big men around this season. The Barfield's stepped right into their roles as starters, and never looked back. Madison is playing like the best guard in District Six. It could be a fifth straight D6 Title.

Somerset is still a tough squad. They have experience, and they are banged up. It's tough to beat a team three times in a season, so if they were to meet Johnstown again, it will be another tough game.

And like you said the refs were fair this game, but like I said somerset was missing 4 players in last nights game and one had 21 points against j-town in the first game at j-town. Last game at j-town the eagles had 3 of the 4 they were missing last night and that was the refs difference. If willis and munster and crew were there last night, j-town wins by 30 easy. Right now somerset and mccort are banged up. Close went into a full court press and gave the trojans easy baskets in the 2nd half. The 1st half close stayed zone and made them play a slowed down half court offense and that is why somerset was winning at the half. Why he switched, I don't know to let that fast team run in the open court. First half j-town was getting 1 and done and it was far shots. 2nd half the change left j-town into their transition game and that was the difference in the game. Also j-town pressured somerset the 2nd half and the eagles were missing their best ball handler and turned the ball over a ton in the 2nd half as opposed to only 4 in the 1st half.

I'm surprised they even went zone to start with. Somerset played a very lax zone against Johnstown the first meeting, and Trojan shooters killed it. Somerset turned it on and made a comeback. Sounds the opposite this time. Who did not play for Somerset?

wilkow, barnes, mostoller, and hart, a jv player that has been doing well in the varsity games since the injuries. Hart played well in the win over richland. The first game j-town did drain the 3s, but didn't last night against the zone. It is hard to full court press the quick j-town team. I would take my chances on them running a slow half court offense because their guys don't usually hit the 3 ball. Look at the averages of some of them. That lanzendorfer was unconcious the 1st game as was barfield, but neither hit yesterday. Even madison was off. All I am saying is I would take my chances slowing them down and taking long shots, instead of letting them run and have open lanes with the quickness and talent they have taking it to the hoop. Somerset needs more disipline and better defense to win anything. They played decent defense in the 1st half, but stunk it up in the 2nd with that bad press that teams tear up and get easy layups off it. They run that press well against bad teams, but even westmont ripped it apart and they aren't very good this year.

Half court*** zone, excuse me. They usually run that junk press that isn't very effective. The impression I got is that they played a packed in zone. I know what Somerset runs, I've played and coached against it.
