5 AA regions
Noticed that AAA has 5 regions? Any thoughts on AA moving to 5 regions? Maybe 5/6 getting their own region in that scenario?

Re: 5 AA regions
AA used to have 5 regions. That changed back in 97 or 98 I think. D-5 used to go out to Washington PA and was in a region with D-7. D-6 went to the NW regionals. I think 4 regions is fine and I like the SW the way it is. It's the toughest region but you get to send 5 kids to states. NW and NE send 3 I think. SE sends 5 like us.
Here is where I was going to take a shot at you for looking for an easier ticket to states but, I will pass for now. LOL

Re: 5 AA regions
whatever. Just that AAA has a SC region and that would fit 5/6 in AA. I think that 5/6 had a sub region for a year of two when you were in high school. I remember going to Tyrone HS I think to watch it. It was a circus if I remember right. SW AA is the toughest but we have the most schools as well. about 15 more than SE.

I think an easier trip to states would be to bump up to AAA and wrestle in that region.

southpaw the SC AAA region is district 3. D6, along with D4,8,9, and 10 participate in the NW AAA regional, which is held in Altoona.
Bumping to AAA and wrestling in the SC region would most likely be more difficult, though its questionable if D3 would even accept a D5 school. More likely would be inclusion in D6 and qualifying through that region, which I would guess would be similar or slightly more difficult to get through then SW AA.
In the late 90s D5 and D6 had a stupid subregional at Tyrone, held in the guise of being needed to narrow the qualifiers to SW AA region, but in actuality it was a nice moneymaker for the PIAA. imo the current situation is much better.

Good point. I meant AA teams in 5/6 bump up to AAA. I would assume any D5 AA bumping up to AAA would be in D6. AA wrestling regions are pretty even NE 45 teams 3 SQ, NW 46 with 3 SQ, SE 62 with 5 SQ and SW 75 with 5 SQ. Just a thought. The PIAA likes to make money and having an extra AA region would make them some cash.

Re: 5 AA regions
The NW AAA region has been bothersome to the PIAA for a long time, as its number of schools don't come close to justifying the # of qualifiers that it receives - 33 schools NW AAA / 262 AAA x 16 qualifiers = 2.02, and this is after D4 and its 4 schools were recently moved in there. However it isn't likely to easily change, as D4,6,8,9 and 10 likely would vote to keep this instead of lose clout, and I'd guess if anything D5 would vote to help D6. Additionally D7 50/262 x 16 = 3.05 (3 qualifiers) and D3 62/262 x 16 = 3.79 (4 qualifiers) aren't real interested in adding more squads to their regions. It is really the NE and SE regions that proportionally don't receive the # of qualifiers that they are due based on percentages.southpaw wrote:Good point. I meant AA teams in 5/6 bump up to AAA. Currently Bald Eagle and Phillipsburg are AA schools that elect AAA, as are 2 D8, 3 D9, and 4 D10 schools. With my guess of enrollment trends moving Clearfield, Johnstown and Bellefonte towards being AA enrollments in the future.

Re: 5 AA regions
In theory Clearfield could go AA, but in D9 3 of the other 4 schools already elect AAA, so I'd guess that Clearfield would make that election also. Dubois is the only natural AAA in D9. My guess is that Bellefonte would also elect AAA given the other schools in the area. I'd guess though that Johnstown would go AA like the rest of the Laurel Highlands.Wrasslerfan wrote:that's an interesting point odoyel which would mean that Clearfield would go to nw aa regionals and Bellefonte and Johnstown would go to sw aa regionals
