State champs
North Star and McCort in a first round matchup..... Definitely two of the better teams in the state.... I feel the winner of this game has a good shot at a state championship. That said ill take North Star 4-2 over the returning champs led by sapanick and rice on the mound and Strasiser who is leading single A in every hitting category...... Anyone else with thoughts or predictions
Re: State champs
The game didn't live up to expectations. Very ugly, a lot of errors and misplayed balls. McCort benefitted the same way last year each round all the way to the gold. We'll have to see if the other teams show up this year.

Re: State champs
McCort is very good at putting pressure on teams. They rarely commit errors, they steal bases at will, and seem to always get the big hits at the right time. Not to mention Justin Vardian threw a very nice game. You would have liked to see North Star play a little better, but sometimes the reason teams don't play as well is because of their opponent. McCort is very good in all facets and they are very well coached.
Re: State champs
Check my previous Colt League post, I was wrong. Sounds like there are some future pros on this team. Just kidding....
McCort is well coached. However, it is easy to steal bases in high school when teams don't have a catcher. 85% of all bases stolen are actually wild pitches/passed balls. You can't steal what is given to you. Sometimes teams don't play well because they can't get away with making the same mistakes they make all year when they face teams that are at their level.

Re: State champs
I don't have enough information on them, but if I were a betting man, I would pick the Crushers. Vardian tossed 5 on Monday, and Neiderhiser went two. I would imagine they would do that in reverse order this time. Meanwhile, Johnsonburg ace, Cole Petersen is very good, but pitched a full game Monday. So they must rely on their number 2 and 3 guys.
Like I said McCort is very dangerous with their team speed and pitching, but they have some kids that can really hit the ball. Luke Williams, Brad Coleman, and Nate Neiderhiser are very good in the middle of the order, and now they have their leadoff hitter back in Trexler, and he has been very productive in his return after a poor start.
Future pro's.....obviously too far down the line, and highly unlikely.....Maybe 2 Division 1 baseball players, possibly 3. If not some quality Division 2 players....With only 2 seniors on the whole roster, mind you. This McCort Junior class is just flat out talented.
Next wave of players with a lot of talent.....Richland freshmen. Keep an eye on them

Re: State champs
Johnsonburg might go with Quinn Luhr. He pitched against ECC in the D9 title game. ECC was the only team to beat the Rams this year. Cole Peterson struck out 14 and allowed only 5 hits against WPIAL champs Western Beaver. Either WB suffered from the WPIAL hangover like so many teams are prone to doing, or they were just outclassed. Either way, hopefully tomorrow will be a good game.
