The Favorites – Chestnut Ridge – Ridge finished with an impressive 7-3 mark, including a 27-21 win over Bedford in the season finale. The Lions played an interesting schedule that saw teams from Pittsburgh, Eastern PA, and Maryland. Ridge has an experienced senior quarterback in Beau Bosch. Bosch is an important part to their running game that averages over 200 yards a game. As a defense, Ridge has recorded 20 sacks as a team and has forced 22 turnovers. Ridge is battle tested, and they look the part of a district champion.
The Contender – Bedford – While it is a four team bracket, but it is a two team race. Bedford comes in at 7-3, and they certainly surprised a lot of people along the way. The Bison have a big strong offensive line, and it paves the way for a number of different play makers in the running game. Austin Montgomery is just a sophomore, but he has really stepped into a big role as the Bedford quarterback. The young Bison has rushed for 13 touchdowns and has thrown for 964 yards on the year. Jeremiah Bingham and Kody Blevins both provide solid support in the ground game. Bedford has some impressive wins to their credit, and they are more than capable of beating Ridge in a rematch.
Beau Knows – Beau Bosch is a senior quarterback for Chestnut Ridge, but there is more to his game than that. Bosch will go onto Lafayette College next year to play tight end. Bosch is a physical player and he is always looking for contact, and that is a big part of his game. Bosch is a physical runner out of the backfield and is a talented defensive player with 5.5 sacks on the season.
Dog Down – The Bulldogs of Westinghouse are struggling, to say the least. Westinghouse comes in with a 1-8 record, including an eight game losing streak. To put things in perspective locally, Westinghouse lost to district five class A favorite Berlin by a score of 34-6. Westinghouse has managed to put up just 3 touchdowns in the past five weeks, and that is a big recipe for their downfall this season. Raphael Drummond is the leader of the offense, as he has rushed for 909 yards, but outside of that, the offense has been rather stagnant.
Woeful Warriors – To be honest, I was very high on Everett this season. I thought they blended a good collection of skilled players and size, and that they would contend for an ICC crown. The season did not go according to plan. Everett lost two difficult games to start the year against Tussey Mountain and Northern Bedford, and perhaps those games were tough ones to swallow. Still, Everett can certainly make things interesting against Bedford. They have some talent, but seemingly never got it together this season.
Super Sophomore – Bright things are ahead for Bedford quarterback, Austin Montgomery. The young Bison QB has resurrected the program to a degree, and will be expected to have Bedford competing for championships in the coming seasons. The LHAC is a league with plenty of promising young quarterbacks, and Montgomery can be as good as any of them.
A bit of everything – Kyle Sheaffer of Everett is a big play threat. The junior athlete has scored ina variety of ways this season, and leads the Warriors in all purpose yardage. He is a dangerous return man, as he has two returns to his credit, including a 97 yard run back against Northern Bedford. On offense Sheaffer averages 8 yards a carry running the ball, while picking up 17 yards a reception.
Forecast
(1) Chestnut Ridge over (4) Westinghouse
(2) Bedford over (3) Everett
(2) Bedford over (1) Chestnut Ridge
