how awful is this year's psu defense?

I am a huge Penn state fan. I can't remember a more miserable defensive unit than this year's squad . Granted, I'm only 33 years of age. But throughout my years, no matter what, they could always count on their defense to keep them in games. I was at the purdue game last weekend and it sickened me how their defense and special teams let such a bad team hang around until late in the game. I won't even mention the Ohio state game. I will still be going to Wisconsin over thanksgiving, as my buddy and i go to an away game every year, on our big ten stadium tour. I'm just kind of scared of what the badgers might do to slice up that d. Seems like all of the 'linebacker u' pride is gone. And it makes me sad....

3/10. Lack of depth is showing in linebacker position

The defense is horrible and will be next year as well. Many people want to blame John Butler and it could very well be that he is not a good coordinator. However, the talent level on the defensive side of the ball is extemely thin. There is no depth and the starters basically have one pretty good player at each position surrounded by average to below average players. I would say Daquan Jones and Glen Carson are your standard very good PSU defensive players. Outside of that alot of these guys would be backups on a normal psu defense. The secondary in the Ohio State game played so far off the receivers that when the OSU guy would catch it, no one would be within 10-15 yards. I believe next year could be a losing season and the lowest point of the sanctions before starting to turn it around. key losses could be Allen Robinson and Felder (who I think is very replaceable) WR position will be young and untested. Daquan Jones will be a big loss on the dline and no one is waiting to replace him outside of maybe a potential 5 star true freshman who wouldnt be ready. Glen Carson will be gone making an already weak line back position worse. OLine and Dline will become trouble spots.

Ironically, I think in the summer the NCAA will lift the bowl ban on Penn State, but Penn State will not generate the 6 wins necessary next year to play in a bowl game.
